111 point check...CON OR WHAT?

My Boxster S 981 has over 13 months less on its official Porsche warranty - I extended it by 2 years when the car was 3 years old.

A bit premature, but I now want to extend the warranty again - I'm trying to front-load some expenses. It is also going in for a major service (it is coming up to 4 years old) in a couple of days.

The OPC that is doing the service is refusing to drop the charge for the 111 point check, which is £216, as a pre-condition to extending the warranty. Con or what? Many reasons why I think it is a con - it is under warranty already, they will be doing most of the checks presumably as part of the service and, even if they were to do the check and I was to take out the warranty, what would stop me doing a modification etc that wouldn't get past the 111 point check immediately following it...?

Good to know thoughts...

Probably going to be too complicated to change the OPC that does the service...

Hi Elliot
If it’s already under warranty and you’re also paying for a major service an extra £216 is ridiculous. Get them to itemise what they are doing for the £216 which is not covered under the major. I cannot think of much if anything, also have a talk to the dealer principal.
To answer your question CON Imho.
Best of luck

Just goes to show that not all PCS are created equal. I have the 2 year extended warranty check done to coincide with the 2 year service and don't get charged for the 111 point check. A double saving. My understanding is that most don't charge if it is done at the same time as the service. I would have big moan to the DP.

My understanding was always as long as you had warranty on the car you automatically carried it on to the next warranty period without the need for a 111 point check BUT I renewed my warranty on Sept 2015 for 2 years which included a major done at the same time and the OPC said I still needed an 111 point check was told it is now Porsches policy , after some is this the best you can do got it for £90 and a saving off the menu price for the service ,you just have ask for a discount I paid £912 inc vat this included Major. Oil .Brake fluid .Spark plugs . Belts Tyre sealant inc the 111 point check and all consumables .The warranty on a Boxster is £1485 for 2 years inc Porsche assist no discount available on this

Thanks for your thoughts.

May as well wait for until a point closer in time when the warranty is about to expire...no real advantage getting it done now unless they will waive the 111 point check. Plus, if I decide to sell the car the warranty probably won't retain the same value as the amount paid (and I would lose all the value if I was to sell the car to Porsche!)

If you have warranty it will give any new owner peace of mind knowing if any thing goes wrong it will not cost them .If selling to an OPC there is no value to a warranty .Porsche will not refund you the balance left on the warranty if you sell it back to an OPC .I think you should wait till nearer the time to renew the warranty no value in doing it now .

FYI - OPC decided to waive the 111 point check given I was having a major service :) . On balance, thought it made sense to extend the warranty given that saving...
