15" 6J Fuchs wheels (+1x14")

Hi,
Firstly, my apologies if this is the wrong forum/topic to post this question on. I have a set of four 15" 6J rims which I have owned for about 20 years and are languishing in my parent's garage. I would like to sell them but have no idea how much they are worth. They are in a fairly good condition, have scratches and scrapes, but appear to be mechanically sound. They are silver/alloy coloured with black paint on the webs. The paint appears to be original.

There is also a single 14" rim which is damaged; there is a ding in the rim where the bead seats which has been badly 'repaired' with what looks like body filler. Yikes.

I expect I'll sell the set of four separately from the 14" (if indeed it is worth anything at all).

Could anyone let me know where would be best to try to sell them, and give me an indication of what I should ask for them please?

Many thanks,

Max

Hi Max,

Fuchs wheels are relatively "big" business these days. So, firstly, you need to determine whether they are the real deal.

Credit to Nick Moss at www.Early911.co.uk for the comprehensive breakdown of the differences

1. Fox head stamp (fuchs - fox in german) on the inside of one of the petals
s-number-400.jpg

2. A porsche serial number. Now, you had the "deep six" pre 1973 wheels (£££) or the later "flat six" 6x15 wheels (£).

You can recognise them by Fitted to 1969 - 1970 911s Part number 901.361.012.06 / or 011.361.020.10 Identified by the deep rim upstand, about 42mm, and the web on the back face

or the later ones
part number 901.361.012.03

there is also a "date stamp" on one of the inside petals indicating the month and year (mm/yy) when manufactured. If it is an early wheel, say a 2.2 S of 1970 then it might be more valuable then say coming of a 1977 911 2.7 impact bumper.

The 14 inch wheels were of the "comfort pack" 911 types, and are of relatively little value (under £60 per wheel)

HTH,

Bert

They look like "flat" sixes, fitted to 911s from March 1970 onwards. They are worth around £175 each, a little more if they are the type designed to accept the 3 prong centre cap (they have a 4-5 mm step in the centre hole). Take the tyres off before you try and sell them, check for cracks by ringing them like a bell, and get the tyre fitter to see if they are true

Hi Max , you have 2 main markets - people who have old porsches and people who pimp up old VW campers !
The going rate for 4 wheels is max £1000 , if they are in good nick then £200 per wheel is fair , less if need restoring. The VW folk tend to go for a polished finish all over ( good winter DIY project )
Advertise online.
To reach Porsche market : ddk-online.com ,pistonheads.com , PCGB forum - probably in that order

To reach VW market : wheel-whores.com , volkzone.com/VZI/

And of course there is always ebay !
