15" tyres?

Hi all

After some thought, I think I'll take the 17" wheels off my Lux and put the original teledials back on. (The replica Cup 1s are heavy, plus the tyres aren't great and the tracking is set up for the 15" teledials). That said, I'll probably need a couple of new tyres on the teledials too. I was planning to go for Falken 452s, but I see they're no longer available! And that the 453s that replaced them are a) not as well thought of and b) not available in 15" sizes as far as I can see.

Does anyone have alternate suggestions for 15" tyres? I've got Bridgestones on there now, which have been OK. But haven't lasted all that well, and don't seem to grip the road amazingly either. (Unless I need the tracking doing again - probably do).

Though I suppose there's a wider range of tyres available if I do go with the 17s. Any thoughts?

Cheers all.

I have Kuhmos on my teledials.

Have just been told by the owner of Carleton tyres that these are exceptionally hard wearing, but are usually used on a heavier car. He reckons they will take forever to wear out.

The gold 944 has Kuhmos on her 17 inch cups....and they have lasted forever....at least 20,000 miles and counting.

Thanks. Do they grip well?

I've actually just realised that I fitted my Bridgestones back in 2009, so they actually haven't lasted too badly! I suppose the trade off is better grip - softer rubber - quicker wear...

They seem ok to me . We have three 944s , two are 2.5 Lux and one is a S2 cab . The other Lux has 17s on cup wheels with spacers and wears Kuhmos also. It is hard to compare . I must say though that the steering is much more accurate on the 15s , but of course that is what it was designed to have . I just had a nail in one and had it repaired just yesterday . The tyre chap ( lady) said if it had been some makes it would have been a gonner but they were able to repair it to legal standards . The other thing is that they were designed she said for heavier vehicles than the Porsche . I put a few pounds more all round and that gives a stiffer feel it also rolls on better , the best bit is that they are as cheap as chips I paid about £300 for the four , fitted balanced and new valves . Another option although dearer are Fuldas they last forever , same sort of tread pattern and very good in the wet . It is all a matter of your pocket money and how you drive the car . One of our regional members with a GT3 wore out a set of £250 a corner top of the market tyres in one track day!!!! Have fun

Thanks. One final question please! Are they Kumho Solus? They seem to be recommended according to the internet. Also, Vredestein Quadtracs seem to be well thought of, and only a bit more expensive.

I don't drive the car particularly hard - I don't do track days. But I would like to be confident in its handling if I have the opportunity!

I changed to 15" teledials on my Lux from 17" that came with the car and decided on 195/65/15 tyres.
I choose Dunlop SP Bluresponse at about £220 for a set of 4.

I'm not an expert on tyres by any means and I don't drive hard either, but they do have an A rating for wet conditions and are rated as a quiet tyre. What that means in terms of how they will wear I have no idea!
