16" wheels -what to do

[For some reason the previous post got truncated]

I seem to be in a minority of one in owning 16" wheels . I thought they were OK until I started reading this forum.

Views on 17" or 18" wheels much appreciated. I don't do too many miles in the car , but tend to do long distances when I do. Not ventured into a track day yet.

I am hanging back until a tyre change is required and the wallet has recovered from the suspension and headlight upgrade.

Also I would like to keep 'originality' in the sense of keeping to wheels available as options on this or related model.

Simon from Redline Racing showed me some 18" RS wheels which looked great, but where is a good source of authorative information and supply of suitable wheels.

time to Super Size.....[:D]

17's are fine, 18's are nice..... go for what you can afford and like the look of

I can't believe that I still only have 17's on my car !!!! [&:]

Definitely time to upgrade. I would personally recommend 17s based on road driving experience. I found an increased tendancy to tramline with 18s and a jittery ride. I am sure others will have differing views.

Sundeep you are beginning to sound like a chav[:D] 18" wheels, whatever next!

rather a nice set of 18" BBS LM's ! [:-]

extra tyre width will hopefully do something for those track days ! !

but will be on those 17's for a while.....[:(]

I would go for 18" wheels, I like the feedback that you get from the 18" wheels compared to 17s. The car feels much more alive ( jittery to some [;)]).

I started with 17s on my old 993, car was sweet. Couldnt resist the temptation to meddle so went for 18s. Ruined the cars handling so went back to 17s.

Ajit, what type of suspension were you running on your car?

Cheers

My own experience of 17" v 18" is the 17" has more progressive and adjustable oversteer whereas the 18" seemed ,to me at least ,to offer more grip to a point and then let go more suddenly,(before anyone says tyres they had the same type on) Therefore I've put 17" cups back on as its more fun!! Not having tried 16" I can't comment on how it will affect but you must admit it whatever you do it will look better.

Thanks for all the advice.

Any good recommendations for suppliers of wheels? Based in the North East when I am in UK.

What else has to be done to fit the wheels - having the car upgraded at present to MO30 + Bilstein HD

I run 18 inch turbo wheels, call me mad but im after 19inch Ruf wheels, so mine are up for grabs if your interested. They are perfect and have been repainted in Turbo S colour (more chrome looking).

As for ride quality, go for 17inch, your Nan will much prefer them.

I'm not sure the Turbo wheels fit on a narrow bodied car. I think they might be too wide.

I got my 18" wheels from Jasmine. They sometimes have deals going and might even part-exchange your 16".
If you speak to the right person they are reasonably knowledgeble.

Are your 18" hollow spokes? If so, may be interested when you are ready to change.

As a result of this forum I went ahead and had the Bilstein HD / M030 upgrade on my C4 with Redline Racing doing the honours. Also had a HID headlamp upgrade. FANTASTIC[:)][:)] even on 16" wheels. So thanks to this Forum! Took it out this weekend even despite weather in North East (why have a C4 otherwise) and was great fun.

tigger

even if you end up with 17's they look fine....... 16's are just tooooooooo small !!

regards

Glad you like it. I have the exact same suspension set up but use 17" Cup 2 wheels and also think it's fantastic. Tried 18s and took them back off after a week.

You can pick up a second hand set of Cup 2s for about 250 without tires. Just picked up a second set that I am currently having colour coded (cue incoming colour coded wheel abuse...).

Ian.
