17" Alloys

Hi guys, whats a good play to get a set of 4 17" alloys from and price. Also the normal wheels are 7J and 9J however i find some that say 8J is there much difference between and 7J.

There are acouple of sets on eBay at the moment. I should think you will find them on there regularly, as people tend to upgrade to 18's, and sell the 17's.

7Jx17 and 9Jx17 are the standard sizes for F/R. I would stick to those, as 8" on the front might upset the balance

that's what I was thinking, I don't want more understeer [:D].

EDIT:I had a quick look at that website, and they seem quite expensive. I was thinking maybe £500 for a set of 4 which i guess is only realistic if i go second hand. Also is there a difference between boxter fittings and 996 wheel fittings?

The website is useful for the sizes and styles Chris, they are genuine wheels so not cheap but I guess you get what you pay for

Im not doubting that they're real im just a bit reluctant to spend £3000ish on a set of wheels.

Boxster rears in 17" are only 8.5" wide.

996:
7Jx17 ET50 or 55 Front
9Jx17 ET55 Rear

986:
7Jx17 ET55 Front
8.5Jx17 ET48 or 50 Rear

Ok thanks, i ask as there is a set of 4 on ebay that mentions boxster plus 996 fitment.

Ive had a look on google and there doesnt seem to be many places selling 17" alloys in the 7 x 17 and the 9 x 17 size. Is it worth upgrading my normal summer alloys to 18 x 7.5 and 18 x 10 to replace my current 17's with decent vredstein winter tyres? Most places that sell other 17" alloys only seem to do 8 x 17 and 9 x 17 as a set of 4.

Cheers

Chris

Do you think if i get a set of 17" boxster wheels even tho they would cause a bit more oversteer that they would be ok for use with winter tyres?

They should be OK, and will be fine for clearance. The outside faces will be in a very similar position front and rear, and you will get about 11mm more clearance at the rear. Should be no problem for winter tyres. May be a slight advantage in snow.

Thats what i was thinking, less oversteer in snow is always a good thing.
