17 inch rims - tyre pressure?

I followed the recent discussion on tyre pressures for the S2 on 16 inch rims, and I have the same problem with 17 inch rims for the S2 cab - no idea and the handbook does not take the larger rims into account. I have googled the web to no effect. Can anyone advise? Running on Avon tyres. Thanks

On the 'Trackday Advice Required' thread someone advises 34/36 psi front/rear for the track which is a few psi lower than road pressures to take account of the extra heat you'd be working in on the track. However adding 2psi onto that to make 36/38 sounds a bit high to me. I'm not sure what pressures i'm running at the moment but I think mine are a bit too high pressure as I feel that the rear end is a bit insecure in slightly slippery conditions so I might lower mine a few psi. But 34/36 psi sounds about right to me for the road and a few psi lower than that for the track.

I followed the factory pressures for 968 Cabs running 17" rims & set my S2 Cab on 17's to 36psi all round.

Thanks for that. Makes a lot of sense. I was running way under pressure and the steering was very heavy. Pumped up to 36 all round which made things much easier, but it is light at the rear in the wet (then again aren't they always)

Certainly when at 38/44 the front end was just way too high as proven by the major understeer - I didn't take notice of the back because the front was getting all my attention!.....I first dropped back down to 32/32 following the feedback to my post but have since gone to 34/34 and it seems a nice balance - will perhaps put the rears to 36 and have a play but certainly no more than 34/36 from what I've found over the last few weeks. (on 16's ofcourse).

Hilux - when you say "running hot" I take it you mean track hot rather than road hot? So you would drop the tyre pressure a bit when using the car on a track? I can't imagine on road driving you are working the tyres hot enough to build up that much heat in the tyres??

I think you'd be surprised. Obviously road tyres don't get melting tread hot like track tyres do, but they warm up appreciably even on the motorway at speed. Touch them next time you have driven for a distance at speed and you'll see.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I run my track tyres at 29psi hot.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Road hot.

Stop after a high ish speed blast and immediately take the pressures (having checked them cold first) you WILL get a surprise.

Fen is absolutely correct when he says

My Westy used to run 16 psi ish on tracks and some are down to 12/13 psi ish [;)]
