18" Borbet Type A's on a 944 ??

944 KING

New member

greetings fellow Porsche owners

(First ever forum post so be kind if slow to reply or this ends up in the wrong section)

I have recently got my 1986 Lux back on the road and looking to sell the Alloy wheels and tyres that came with the car as they are a bit bling for my taste. They are 18 inch Borbet Type A's and in fairly good condition and the car has just passed an MOT so tread is good. I am posting rather than selling at the moment to see what interest they get and if anyone feels like replying what they think they would be worth, or make an offer, your advice is welcome.

Thank you for your time and happy motoring

I have hopefully also uploaded a picture for the wheels

Welcome to the forum, and yes agree they are a bit "back to the future". Think you might battle to sell them on here but you never know.

Borbets and Azevs are lovely wheels and suit the 44 well, but 18's are total overkill for these cars.

Try wheelwhores for free maybe.

Thanks for your all positive feedback, advice and comments.

They are an acquired taste I think. I don't dislike them but I'm also not so sure they are healthy for a car that should be wearing 15" wheels.

cheers

I actually quite like them and think in a dark colour or black centres silever rims they would look nice although 18" is a little large.

Thank you for your interest.

I have struggled to find a similar set to compare prices, hence my post. 18" seem to be quite rare ?? especially in the USA. I will get more details of sizes and offsets and post them tomorrow. I have seen them more often on BMW's so I think they must have spacers. They have Bridgestone Potenza RE050 tyres which look to retail about ÂŁ125 each new ! and I will get more details on those too. You are more than welcome to make a sensible offer, tyres and alloys. I think my best route is an online auction, that way they should go for what they are worth, but take a punt.

I would post these on www.retrorides.co.uk; its a forum about classics with modifications, such as slamming a retro car to the floor and put big wheels on.

Good luck,

Bert

For anyone interested, I hope this link works to see some images :

I had a complimentary vehicle check at Porsche Mid Sussex and this is what was documented regarding the tyres :

all tyres are Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 88Y - 255/40 R 18

tread as follows :

n/s/f mm outer 4 middle 3 inner 5
o/s/f mm outer 4 middle 5 inner 5
n/s/r mm outer 4 middle 4 inner 5
o/s/r mm outer 4 middle 4 inner 4

(apparently the Ferrari Enzo has the Potenza tyre factory fitted ! need I say more)

I have included some pics with the centre caps off. The paint is quite thick but you can just make out some of the numbers. I have included a picture of another Borbet A with less paint and the numbers are much more visible, so I would think they may possibly be the same (?) but please check this out yourselves as I don't know enough about alloys/tyres/offsets etc to advise you.

I have also added a picture of the alloys in a darker colour, this is NOT the actual colour of the wheels, just a manipulated image to see what it looks like. Someone mentioned they would look good darker and I agree.

Price ?? It's what someone is willing to pay. If your interested, Send me an email with an offer and we can go from there.

Thanks for looking

The VW crowd will go mad for them if they can make them fit.

Anyway, it seems there is another car running Azevs of the smaller variety. This car is in this month's Retro Cars:
