18 inch tyre pressure ?

Hi all,

got my rear tyre replaced yesterday, after the bulging sidewall issue.. tyre fitters were adamant that the damage was due to running flat with a nail, so I guess thats that.. at least there was no real damage to the rim or car []

Anyhow, when I got my shiny new tyre home, thought I'd check the pressure....

The little sticker on the side of the door says f 36 r 44 but the new tyre was at 56 psi !!! [8|]

So, I let this down to 44, and then proceeded to check the other 3 tyres. they were all in their 50s !!

I guess this would explain the 'nervous' handling and tramlining I've been experiencing ?
And not just that I'm use to a fwd car...

So, although I've done a big search on here and rennlist, I still cant come to a conclusion of what pressures I should be running for 18 inch hollow spoke rims, in UK conditions.

Can anyone give me some advice ? the general average I pulled from the posts was something like 34F 36R

but that seems a little different from the manual recommendation [8|]

Oh, I'm running continential sport contact 2s if that makes a difference ?

Toby

Toby,
I can't comment on your main question because I have 17"s, but I'd double check your pressures on another gauge unless you are sure your own is accurate. For them all to be so consistently high seems strange.

I'm running 36/40 which is OK but a bit harsh. Maybe 34/38 would work but I/m reluctant to go that low. P-Zeros seem better at the higher pressures rather than lower.

I run 18" speedlines set cold at Front 32 & Rear 36.....have used these for a few years on the road and handles well with no uneven tyre wear problems.

If I my C2S is fully loaded I will run 36 fronts and 44 rears. If its just me I will knocked 3/4 pound off these. I have not suffered any ill effects and it does take some of the harsh ride out. If its any help I have been told that the 993 will take any amount of pot hole bashing, even so it never feels nice.
Cheers
Peter

Thanks for the advice guys [:)]
Had another look at the tyres this weekend, and tried a different pressure gauge, ( one of the old metal ones ). Got totally different readings
So the gauge on the electric pump is duff ! []
Had a trip to two petrol stations and tried their pumps too, to get an average [&:]
Car does feel a little less twitchy now, and I'm running 'about' ( difficult to tell totally accuratly from the different gauges I used ), 38 psi..
I'm going to get a better gauge now, and then try lowering them a bit more [:)]

thanks again,
Toby

36/40 here on 17s. I get really fed up with the tyre monkeys who won't/can't inflate tyres to the correct pressures. They get arsey if you try to tell them their job, but if you don't, they put in some random pressure between 20 and 60 psi. I've had similar problems with the Landyrover recently. The motto is always check when you get home.
