18" 'teledials'?!

Some design companies consistently produce stunning looking products and some don't. Let's all guess what category Strosick fall into. [8|]

the local indie said he wouldnt go bigger than 17's on a 944 and theres a lot of anecdotal stories to support the idea that large wheels are a bad idea on cars not designed for them, especially with the state of UK roads.

As far as i can gather the tyres you run on contribute to the impact damping and travel of the suspension. ie A tyre will compress as it hits a bump, meaning the suspension has less work to do.

Low profile tyres on big wheels deform less, as theres less tyrewall to deform, meaning the suspension has to do more. At some point this may overcome the suspensions ability to absorb the bump and it will bottom out. I used to get this a bit on my old E34, which I inherited with big wheels and lowered suspension, and it eventually broke the front suspension on a pothole.

So going from 15"s to 18"s would certainly have detrimental effects to my cars ride and longevity. I could change the suspension to be firmer, but that would make the ride even worse. If i had glass smooth tarmac to play on it might be an option, unfortunately I live in Scotland.

In the past i admit Ive had the big wheel desire myself but weaning myself off it.

not hard with those particular ones ;)
