18" wheels - tyre pressures?

Have 18" turbo replica wheels on my C2. Front tyres are 225/40 - rears are 265/35.

Porsche seem to recommend 36 psi front 44 rear which makes handling feels skittish on bumps in my opinion.

Anyone got any views as to what is comfortable and gives good road holding?

Hi gresley. I wondered the same thing. Maurice recommends 36F/40R and that seems to be the most sensible choice for road use.

Thanks for that - John at Specialist Cars reckons that 29 F - 36 R is best compromise between ride comfort - cornering performance and sensible tyre wear.

Anyone else got any views?

Hi I have the 7F & 9R rim width sized 18" and run 36psi all round and some times find that a bit hard.

If its just me plus passenger I usually run 33F and 41R. If I am loaded up I return to 36/44. Anyway, it seems generally OK to run 2 or 4 psi under and it certainly makes for a better ride on our neglected roads.

slight mis-information Maurice, they are fronts 7½ x 50 x 18 with 225/40/18 tyres, the rears are 9 x 52 x 18 with 265/35/18 tyres, they are a sports design type, I think they off a 2000 996, go on say they off a Boxster.

regards

David

learned something new again Oracle, thanks Maurice.
PS my me and wheels can be seen on Pistonheads Porsche Forum at the Croft post two weeks ago, passing a 996 GT3 down the main straight (or was it the other way round!!)
