18" Wheels - Tyres, Offsets, etc !

In the drivers manual the option listed for 18" wheels is:-

7.5J x 18 H2 Rim Offset 50 mm with 225/40 tyres
10J x 18 H2 Rim Offset 65 mm with 265/30 tyres

As my 1998 C2 has the sports package, I would like to put the turbo style wheels on as someone during its life has removed the 18" wheels and put standard 17" back on. However I am finding it hard to get those exact wheel sizes above.

I have seen the following for sale on ebay:-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-x-18-NEW-PORSCHE-CUP-STYLE-ALLOY-WHEELS-TYRES_W0QQitemZ7999337933QQcategoryZ28648QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

8.5 J x 18 Front offset 54 mm with 225/40 N2 tyres
10J x 18 Rear offset 55 mm with 285/30 N2 tyres

Would this fitment be ok ?, my car does have the 030 suspension ...... need some advice.

Thanks

I have a copy of the Porsche TSB which shows tyres, wheels, offsets, spacers etc., which confirms the rear offset of 65mm is right for your car. 55mm offset would mean that you would need 10mm spacers to get the centreline of the wheel back to the correct position. Similarly, you would need 4/5mm spacers on the front.

According to the TSB, 285x30 rears are not recommended for cars prior to MY2001, but from previous threads I believe that other people are using them. It also shows details for re-working the rear wheel arches to accomodate 285's.

If you would like a copy of the TSB, please email me via my profile page.

Hi Richard & Gary thanks for the information and feedback.

I think I will leave that wheel and tyreset alone, and find the correct rim size and offset.

Thanks again.
