1967 912 Chrome Wheels wanted!

Guest

New member
A freind of mine has a 1967 912, and is either after:

some excellent condition chrome (original) wheels,
a place where he can get his re-chromed (they are rusted/pitted).

Any offers/advice/contacts would be appreciated!

If anyone has the correct wheels, then e-mail me and I can put you directly in touch with him.

Thanks in advance!

You can buy repro steel wheels from many of the usual suppliers.
They are not fantastic quality (imho) and will begin to pit if left outside.
To rechrome wheels it is a very expensive job and unless they are a concours queen not worth the expense, prob cost more than buying new repros. Another option is blasting and powder coating?
Try KarmannKonnection or Roger Bray to get an idea of prices.
Or just bite the bullet and go for Fuch' s...

A decent set of chrome steel wheels will cost about as much as a set of Fuchs (not 4.5inch Fuchs as they are made of unobtanium!).

There is supposed to be a company in the US that will replate them - not sure of the quality but sending wheels back and for would be very expensive!

The biggest problem with nice chrome wheels is that all the 356C boys want them and nearly always have a bigger cheque book.

I have both silver and chrome wheels for my 12 but prefer the look of the painted silver wheels!

Yep tough choice that is why I put up that post about Steels or Fusch. I love the look of Fusch but I put them on my car and thought hmm not sure. I have painted steel wheels They look great re doing the chrome just was not a cost effective measure. I took the wheels to a local cement lorry place as they always have a heavy duty sand blaster paid the guy £10 and he got the boy to blast the chrome that was left off the 5 wheels all done in 10 mins paint them hammerite silver easy to touch up looks great.
Not sure how long they will last but from memory with my dad and a morris minor or 8 Hammerite was good for ages.
