1969 911E Original colour (Silver metallic)

Hi to all . I am in the process of restoring the car and I want to finish it in the original colour (Silver metallic)
Colour plate on the car ( Near side door hinge area) has the following numbers Top : 76-81-9101-H and bellow
77-9410-0503 . The question is what type of paint it was , cellulose , two pack , baked...etc and how to obtain
the exact colour , code.

Thank you
PS : At the moment I am experimenting with plating and colour passivating for the fastenings so I am afraid I will
be asking for some more help.

I am certainly not an expert on Porsche paint codes but I will try an throw a little light on your question. Porsche factory paint codes changed over the years of production although the colours and colour names often remained the same. The factory reference codes also were different early on between coupe and targa body types although the paint code plate had one consolidated number.
As far as I know there were three paint suppliers and these are incorporated into the first line on your paint code plate.G =Glasurit, L= Lechler (Lesonal) and in your case H= Herbert. Silver metallic along with other metalics were problematic and often failed early on in the car's life and were repainted under warantee. Probably they were a two stage paint: metalic followed by a clear coat.
Your paint code appears to be 76 81. However from the notes I have I can not find this code. This may be because my records are incomplete or that your original paint was not a "standard" colour or a "factory special" colour but a "paint to sample". This was an option offered by the factory. The 9101 number, I believe, indicate where the car was painted although I am not sure of this.
It would be interesting to know in which month your car was manufactured. You say it was in 1969 but if it was from late August through to December 1969 it is in fact a 1970 model. You may be better posting your question on early911sregistry.org as this site is a great repository of knowledge regarding pre 1974 Porsche 911.
However, the original paint manufacturer is largely irrelevant as modern paint formulations are entirely different to those of the 1960s and 1970s. My approach to two different colours on two early 911 s was to find an area on the body which had original paint on it and had not been subject to light degradation and get a paint match to this. Both my cars had been repainted in non original colours. In one case I carefully stripped the back the non original colour on the back of a fuel flap and in another the underside of the smuggler's box lid. Good luck.
