Hi there,
I am just in the process of buying a 1972 911E. Do you guys have any specific things/problems I should be looking for?
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If it is your first early 911 and you have no previous knowledge of the model you should get expert advice on the condition of the car before you buy it as body and mechanical repairs can be very expensive. Having said that you need to look at the bodywork for rust in particular the sills the front suspension mounting cross member, the "kidney bowls" in front of the rear swinging arm mountings. Also look at the floorpan, bottom of the doors, around the base of the windscreen front and rear and where the wings fit onto the main bodyshell. Engine wise, check the engine numbers and chassis numbers to verify what it is. Start the engine from cold preferably and look for smoke, what does the engine sound like how does it run, what is the clutch operation like, what is the gearbox like, what is the syncromesh like, how do the brakes work, do they stop in a straight line. Inside the cabin, what is the state of the interior, do the gauges work, do the lights all work properly, any play on the steering wheel etc etc.
All these things will have an impact on the car and its price, go and look at it and see for yourself and then get professional advice before parting with any money. Happy hunting and don't lose any sleep over it.

where abouts in the country are you & where abouts is the car? i strongly suggest you get someone who knows about these cars to have a look over it as these cars can end up being a real money pit. [&o]

Many thanks for the help. The car has just been restored and the engine is original and not been touched at all. It is in need of a bit of TLC due to smoking on high rev overrun. Do you know any decent engine specialists that could possibly do this over the winter? I stay in the Aberdeen area.

My old car. My first ever 911. Owned it through the late 80's and early 90's. Still have one or two things for it in my garage (mostly junk). Was still in it's original colour (inside and out) then. I still have a few photos.
I see it has returned to it's former homeland. Was owned by several people from Aberdeen before me.

Regards
Mike
