1974-77 3.0 911 turbo

I dont suppose anyone knows how many of the early rhd 3.0l 911 turbos are left in this country.Not many made and seem cheap compared with the 3.3.
Are they unloved compared with later ones?
 
As per my email...... 36 UK spec 3.0 930s built, and I know of a handful still in use.
If they are unloved compared with the 3.3, it's primarily down to articles written by people who either haven't driven them, or else didn't understand how to get the best out of them........ they perform differently to the 3.3.. The 3.0 is lighter and better balanced (if any 911 can be described as well balanced!), and on many roads, this makes up for less power and the fabulous brakes of the 3.3
As for relative prices - just look at what good 3.0 turbos go for in Europe.
 
I have one of the UK RHD 3.0 930s. It's a '77 car that was exported from the UK to Japan in the late '70's and came to Singapore in 1982, I picked it up last year for a song (by Singapore car price standards!) and am now going about putting it right(ish) again.

I agree, they seem to have a rather unloved reputation, but there are far fewer of the 3.0 than the 3.3 and that's part of the attraction for me! Mine has been modified almost beyond recognition but it's definitely a matching numbers 3.0 UK car - so out of the 36 there's at least one less left in the UK [:D]
 
These cars are now well over 30 years old. They only brought a handfull into the country and many of those have fallen foul to either tin-worm or found their way to breakers yards through inexperienced driving - you go from hero to zero very quickly!

Given the age of these cars now, many prices also reflect the condition that potentially 35 year old metal gets in. This must be held in mind when considering one of these cars as kidney plates and sills all could be required, drawing down the potenial asking price of the car.

Consider the flip side - they are light - often around 1175kgs, the engine is mounted further forwards than the 3.3 and they share a direct heritage with the 934 racing cousin.

Also keep one alive and they are exclusive - how often do you see a 3.0 turbo out and about? It is also true to say that the Turbo is one of the most evocative 'supercars' available, even now. Had it not begun with the 3.0 would we say that now?

Condition is king but I have never regretted mine, and even after 35 years it can still show a clean set of heals to many modern supercars. Why be part of the crowd when you can have a part of the start of a motoring icon.

if you're wanting to buy, you probably shouldn't go round telling all the sellers that it's urgent!! [;)]
