I am looking at buying a US 911S Targa from 1977.

Maybe I have read the information incorrectly but according to Porsche's website the 'S' wasnt made in 1977!?

Was 1977 a transitional year in which the 2.7 and 3.0 were sold side by side? This is an extract from www.porsche.com: -

The '77 model 911s from Aug 76 onwards are the first to be fully galvanised so if you want a pre SC 911 a 77 model is the one to go for.

i have an imported 1977 2.7 911, and i think its an S. its original documentation are long gone, but it runs fine great car. and my litle car doent conform to the spec above, i guess customers could choose want they wanted to make there own 911 combinations, just as you can today

That car is from Mike Brewers programme and a 911 2.7 litre targa. The S was only a package IIRC for the US market: the S engine with 175 BHP (as opposed to the normal 911 2.7 with 150 BHP) were superseded for model year 1976 -starting from August 1975 until July 1976) by a generic 2.7 engine zwith 165 BHP and higher torque; prestations were not significantly different between the 165 and 175 BHP engines.

MY 1976 was the first galvanised series.

There is a treat on DDK-online regarding this car IIRC.

Best regards,

Bert
