1978 924 PART

Hi guys

Help/advice needed. I just decided to unwrap and take a look at my 78 924 a few weeks back. I noticed this part which is either a resistor or similar for ignition or for fan when ignition is turned off. This was replaced previous but not by me. It wasn't starting either but may not be related.
Part No. 481 905 051 A
BERU WZ18-2F
located just to the front of the fan under the panel trim.

Any idea where I might get this part?

Regards

A picture of the location and the part you’re searching for might help with some answers?

That’s well and truly fried!

Doesn’t look original at all to me... [&:]

This looks suspiciously like someone has bodged something to do with the fan thermostat.

I’m no electrics expert, but I would recommend you have someone competent investigate this further, as you say you had trouble with starting as well, which this bodge may well have caused.... good luck...

Cheers for the advice, yes I will get an expert to look at it, the car is in storage in Ireland and I am hoping to get it over to London shortly, then get some expert work carried out and get it out and about, maybe even trade for a 944.

Yes there was work done in this area before.

I can confirm that my friends early 1976 924 has no such part fixed there -however as an early points /condensor model it does have 2 blocktype ballast resisitors,1 each side of the coil.

A google search confirms that that part no is listed as a ballast resistor

Should be one of these, common to all 924's usually mounted up by the relay panel, but on early cars on the slam panel, controls the 1/2 speed rad fan when ignition off. It has been bodged by an alternative resistor.

Great thank you, it would be nice to get it back as it should be so, cheers.

Nice, great to know, was wondering about the fan alright. I believe it was moved on the later models alright, makes sense. Thank you for the valuable knowledge.

I have just bought a 924 and it is driving well. but the tyres are 3 different makes and 195 50 15 on the front and 205 50 15 on the rear, what make is best to use and should i stick to the size that the car has now or fit a different size ?

Is your car the 2.0 or the 2.5S ?

15" for the S is 195/65/15, both the current sizes are too small in diameter.

The correct size for your car, assuming you have the correct wheels fitted and it is not an S Le Mans, is 195/65x15 all round

Thanks for that info do you know the correct speed and load rating, as I want to order them for this week end
