I am interested in a 924 for sale locally, however I have a couple of questions.

Firstly, is FH - Full history?

and secondly £3,000 seems quite expensive. I saw another 924 Lux FH for sale on the internet for £900.

I'd have thought they mean "fixed head", as in not cabriolet? Service history would normally be FSH, or even better FPMDSH.....[:)]

And yes, £3 k is a lot. But, a really good car for £3k will be cheaper in the long run than a £900 wreck!

As Paul says, the term fixed head probably refers to fixed head. I had a look at this one on the A**O Tr***r web site and it looks well presented. At £3000 it needs to be pretty solid underneath and not just a glowing paint job. Do take the trouble to check the areas around the front jacking points and the return edge of the whole sill, before commiting yourself. As a personal preference I am not sure if the red colour at the centre of the wheels works cosmetically, but the price or value of 924s of this alleged condition is unchartered territory, and each example has to be considered on its merits individually. If you bought a £900 car you could easily spend a grand each side on the sills and still not have a car in such apparently good overal condition. Without insuting the dealer you would need to ensure that is is coming up to 98,000 for the first time, as 924s have a five digit odometer which starts from 00000 after 99,999 miles, but looking at the outside the 98,000 seem genuine enough, but don't be fooled by a quick respray. £3000 is quite a lot to invest in a 924 so examine it carefully. In the end, the final decision will be yours. You know what they say, " If it looks like a potato, smells like a potato and tastes like a potato then it's probaly a potato." In other words check it over thoroughly.

Does the drivers sat have a rip in it? it looks so on the website. Also The bonnet badge is a transfer and the rear decals look funny, although that may just be the picture?

There are some 924's for sale on here too......................... [;)]

It looks tidy enough I'll give you that - but in my humble opinion it's a bit expensive for a snazzy paint job... as Andy says the drivers seat looks like it has a tear...

Secondly, a specialist car dealers should know that nob is spelt with a K.

Thirdly, (and this really is probably just me) the tyres on those newly refurbished alloys look like budget ones (Jupiter I believe). For me, if you're going to do a proper job and make it drive as well as it looks I wouldn't skimp on tyres - makes me wonder where else costs have been cut. But like I said thats just me...

Thanks for the advice. I have knocked this one on the head.

Last night I looked at (briefly - full viewing today) a 924s 1986 with 80,000 miles on the clock. Two lady owners - the curent owner has had for 18 years. It appears to be immaculate. She is asking £2250, which again seems higher than some other 924's out there - but I guess you get what you pay for.

Plus it is in my preferred colours of red with black interior.

Any pointers of major trouble spots I should check for? As I said it looks visually perfect (but this sometimes hides the truth).

To be honest, if it was the fully analysed potato from my previous post then I would be happy to pay £2250. 80,000 is nothing for the 944 engine. Troublesome bodywork areas are the same as a 924 2.0, but perhaps not so far gone. Look for brown mayonnaise in the coolant header.

The added advantage is four wheel disk brakes, and that engine is so smooth.

Now dropped to £2,500 ......

Where the heck do Jupiter tyres come from ?

Personal foible, but I hate tyre paint. The sills look newly painted too. And even at £2500 I would not expect a transfer in place of a badge.

It's down to £1,500 now! Give it a couple more days and they'll be paying you to take it away...

Curiously the pricing of the 911 and 968 they have seem about right (not that you can tell what they're like from such small pics), which makes me curious as to why they thought that 924 was worth so much originaly.
Best regards,
Peter
