[:)]I have been given a 1980 924 Le Mans Model for free.

( Tim the chassis no. is .....BN....895) 1980. [;)]

The trouble is I'm not to sure what to do. The car is in a poor condition and needs some work. The engine runs well and the body can be saved. The interior is in a very poor condition and needs to be replaced.

I have a 1983 924 Le Mans...but. The engine has an electrical fault and doesn't run. But everything else including the interior is in mint condition.

What car shall I save?

Has anyone got any ideas. Shall I swap the interiors and keep the 1980 car I do I try to sort out the electrical fault and use the 1980 car as a donor car.

I'd go for the option that offers the least work/expense. Also may be worth checking the chassis numbers with Porsche AG (you can do this by phone or email - and more reliable than trying a dealer) to make sure they are authentic Le Mans models before you decide.
Good Luck.

I'll try to put some on. Not too sure how to do it...

I have decided what I'm going to do. The 1983 le mans will be a donor car and I will restore the 1980 le mans car. After a lot of research into the 'Le Mans' cars, it looks like that they did indeed make 1030 ltd edition cars for 1980, but during 1983 and 1984 when the 944 was selling well and sales were low for the 924, Porsche GB did some le mans car during this period with external features such as the decals and wheels, but not internally such as the thicker anti roll bars or koni suspension to try to boost sales until the 924S arrived.

These cars were sold as 'Le Mans' during 1983,84 years in the OPC's across the country. So if you want a ltd edition 'Le Mans' the chassis number must have 'BN.....' . These cars are still 'Le Mans' just like Porsche made a lot of Martini edition cars during the 1977 period.

If you read Tony Dron's latest book on Porsche he does quote that the 'Le Mans' models are very rare and underated. So grab one whilst you can.
