Am experiencing strange/scary steering problems - entering roundabout, about to steer around for exit 3 when steering wheel locks in postion sending car across 3 lanes. Car comes to standstill via emergency stop, steering wheel shaken, steering releases, suggested diagonsis is steering lock warn and engaging with key inserted. Repair carried out ignition removed, steering lock plunger removed reassembled......90 miles later same fault, any ideas.....next componemt change is going to be steering universal joint.......only work on steering in the last few weeks has been newly fitted steering column bearing set.......

Any suggestions please, my car is spending too many weeks in garage being repaired !

Scary indeed....unfortunately I have no ideas above and beyond the two areas that you have suggested.
