1984 seats

I have an original 3.2 carrera 1984 and have just removed the passenger seat to find out why the seat adjusting lever was jamed I found it had seized no doubt due to lack of use.Oil did the trick plus furious operating I had a really difficult job to remove the securing allen key bolts from the threaded plates holding the seat runners on the track . The problem was the near inacsessible access to these bolts being under the seat Was this the original design or doI have the wrong seats/runners in the car. These use just one bolt at the bck not two shown in a service manual. Can anybody comment on this issue?

If I'm reading this correctly you have one Allen screw bolt per corner that bolts through the runner and mount onto a metal threaded plate underneath.

This is standard configuration except there should be two bolts at the back, my 86 Carrera has one at the front, two at the rear.

Bolts can be ordered from OPC, but any hardware shop will sell equivalents
 
You will have to get the Allen key bolts from Porsche as they are a shallow fit and the wrong bolts won't let the seat slide,
Also the stops at the front bolts must face to the rear. Put the front bolts in last. Gives more room to fit rear bolts.
 
Hi Thanks for the reply . I see you have two bolts at the back which is correct accordin to the service manual but my 1984 car has just one and is located right under the seat and near impossible to reach with the allen bolt threading into the square metal plate. I can only think that the seats have been left over from 911SC production as my car is early 1984. What do you think?

Thanks Charles My allen bolts are fine but I would like to know if the FULL FORWARD stop is adjustable as this would enable me to get better access to the rear bolt. I would still like to lnow if my SINGLE bolt at the back comes on a seat from an earlier car or what

Hi Folks I just had a post from a 911SC owner who says he has one bolt at the rear seat mount just like mine. Seems as if Porsche had some seats left over hence used them on early 3.2 cars. I beleive my seats are originalin the car as they match the interior
Any comments? Best rgds David
 
Your interior of the 3.2 carrera is fairly similar to a late 911SC 204 bhp, as the interior update on the 3.2 carrera happened after the August 1985 holidays at Porsche. Ergo, any 3.2 carrera produced before august 1985 should, in theory - there are always exceptions-, not have the later style seats etc etc.

Hi Bert Thanks for an informative reply . I think it explains why my 3.2 which was built in March 1984 has interim seat mounts. Unlike the 911SC which appears to have one hexagonal bolt to hold the seat rail My 3.2 does have just one allen headed bolt in a very difficult to get at position. Acoording to later 3.2,s and your helpful comment ,there are two allen type bolts at the rear.
Thanks so much for clarifying the situation. I am now in the process of adding a clamp fixing at the rear to ease assembly in the future for both seats

Hi Folks I have just completed a mod to the rear seat fixing on my early 3.2. It seems as if Porsche had an interim solution not SC or later 3.2, with two rear allen bolts [ M8]
I spent hours trying to remove the single M6 allen bolts from underneath the seats. Nearly impossible and needed an allen key with a shortened blade to get under the seat. I even had my wife attempting to get at them by laying across the back seats/ Eventually all the back ones were removed and I devised a clamp which used the much easier rear hole in the car mounted rail

Please see the attached photo

Clamp size stainless steel 100mm strip 15mm wide [reduced to 14,5mm] The M6 hole is 25mm from one end Rounded end and painted black

At least it will be easier to remove and replace the seats in the future

Hi Charles My early 3.2 has different seats I think . When I slide the seats fully backwards the M6 allenscrews are easy to access being right under the corners of the seats . If I slide the seat fully forwards with a clunk , you can just see the M6 allen screws some 4 inches under the seat requiring a shortened height allen key to remove or install them. This is the problem I have had with big hands ,glasses etc to reach them This is why I devised the clamp arrangement to ease the removal of the seats in the future rather than the extreme difficuly in getting at the screws and threaded plates. The clamp arrangement works well and secures the seats tightly. I would have preferred to stck with the original design but needs must. Thanks for input best wishes David
