I recently purchased a project off ebay unseen! and had it delivered (brave/stupid you decide) i will put up a full thread when i get chance detailing my updates and the work i have done, it was supposed to run! and last week it finally started but died again after a short run, today we had another look at the car, fitted a new DME relay, a replacement injector as one wasnt working! then had no spark which we had last week! we think the clifford alarm was to blame so that was traced back to where it splices into the loom and removed! and the wires re joined, bingo! we now have spark, we had also checked the reference sensors and Air fuel meter with a multimeter so check they are at least doing sumthing! i re fitted the spark plugs and the car started! ran for a while turned it off, started instantly again! went for a drive up the road and back all good! must have been on and off 5 times with no trouble, let the car warm up to see if the fans kick in and they didnt turns out thermostat is stuck, i refitted the hose and filled with water then started the car and it ran for about thirty seconds before it cut out and wont re start! any ideas?

Obviously intermittent electrical gremlin, work through it slowly and methodically, take a look at the fuse and really boards to make sure all the plugs are home.
You will see a couple of plastic thumbscrews on the board, release these and you can lift the board for access, ignition off and some of the live terminals are exposed so steady away.
Check the distributor cap connections a tiny amount of corrosion causes havoc, been there !
If it starts okay and starts cutting out when warmed up it could be the blue temp sensor giving a dodgy reading to ECU which in turn enriches fuel and chokes the car when warm, been there !
Good Luck, my last non start was flywheel sensors.

i was back out there this morning, pulled a plug and checked we had spark which we did lovely, next up i took the end off the fuel rail and a tiny dribble of fuel came out alot less than previous, jumped the relay to fire the fuel pump and it just clicked! removed it from car checked it direct to battery and its not working, so a new one is ordered! i fitted a new fuel filter whilst i was under there so next weekend its new fuel pump, new thermostat and check the fuel pressure is good and hopefully it works! if not back after the electrical gremlins
Not used them myself but, these look helpfull

I have checked the DME relay that was in it and it checked ok with a multimeter, but still did nothing when back in car so i got a new one, then i removed the clifford alarm which appeared to give us spark! i think the fuel pump which has now stopped working might have been causing the issues, i will fit a new one and check i get the right pressure next weekend... before i look for the next issue!
fitted new fuel pump this morning, checked fuel pressure all ok got the car running and left it running for a while all got up to temp and fans kicked in, turned it on and off a few times and fired straight up until it decided it now doesnt want to run! checked spark we have that, put new spark plugs in at the same time, pulled off fuel rail and its got plenty of fuel coming out the injectors! it even nearly started but just turns over no idea why
