1986 / 1988 washer motor fitting...

Hi all

The windscreen washer motor seems to have packed up on my 1986 944 - it makes whirring noises, but only an intermittent bubbling and the occasional squirt of water actually comes out of its output pipe. I was looking on the 'bay, but all the washer motors there seem to be for 1988 onwards 944s, and it looks like the mountings may be different at the bottom. (Though the pics don't really show the mountings).

Has anyone had one of these ebay washer motors, and managed to fit it to an earlier car? (At £6.50 including postage it's looking like better value than £45 odd plus postage for a new part from ECP!)

Cheers,

Giles

Break the washer pipe before the non return valves at the jets. It could well be them at fault. Try the washer without the jets or NRVs connected.

Hi Giles, if it is the motor that is mounted on the front top of the washer bottle rather than hidden from view, I have some good secondhand ones here, £15 plus postage,

Thanks Rob, but I tried that. When I said no water from the outlet pipe, I meant from the actual outlet tube on the pump...

I brought one of those cheap ebay ones for another car and they should fit fine the connectors might be different but nothing to hard to sort out.

Thanks Wayne

I actually ordered a secondhand proper one off the bay, but it doesn't seem to have turned up. If I can't track it down, I'll try one of the new ones and see if I can get it to stay in the right place.

Cheers all.

If its the one that fits on the front of the washer bottle, I got one from ebay for about a fiver. It fitted my 86 just fine, only difference the pump had a vw part number not porsche. I think its a mk2 golf boot pump?!?

Yes, it fits to the front of the washer bottle. I see them on Ebay right now, but all the ones specced for 944s look smooth all round, whereas the one on my car has a mounting plate on the underside that sits on two nodules on the washer bottle. Did you search for a 944 part, or for a golf part?! Or did you actually get a 1986 specific 944 part?

Cheers.

I got one of the cheap round ones for about 4 quid. It is held in place with a bit of bodge tape [&o]

It was the one with a mounting plate as you say. It was for sale new on ebay as a porsche 944 part. When the item turned up it was the same as the old one but had a VW part number.

Here is one on US ebay, it has a list of all the porsche cars it fits if that helps.

And here is the list of VW/Audi cars it was fitted to:

Thanks all

My 1986 part is officially lost in the post, and I can't find another 1986 part on ebay so I've ordered a 1988 smooth one. I already have the araldite and duct tape ready [:D]

Cheers.

Thanks Alasdair, but I may as well get a new part rather than a 20 year old part this time. Then hopefully I won't have to do this again for another 20 years!
