1986 3.2 Gearbox oil

Hello to all 3.2 Owners out there: Has anyone tried using Swepco oil in the 915 gearbox, if so please forward your findings. Thank you. Ian.

Have a look on Pelican and also Impact Bumpers - you'll find lots of feedback/opinions.

Common conscensus seems to be that Swepco is the oil to use in a 915, with Mobil 1 in the G50, with both giving some improvements in shift quality/ease. If you have no record of the oil change being done (I think on my G50 the recommended interval is something like 48k miles, 915 presumably similar) then I'd go ahead and do oit. It's not a difficult job.

When you do come to change the oil, remember to remove the filling plug first. The filling plug especially tends to seize. If you remove the drain plug first and the filling plug is seized solid then you're knackered - gearbox with no oil in it and no way of filling it up!!!!

Greetings
Me and my missus spent a lovely saturday evening once, changing the oil in my 915 box for SWEPCO. Piece of cake as long as you have the correct size allen keys to remove the plugs, and of course a pair of trusty axle stands[:D].
Anyway another tip is to have a long enough filling tube with funnel attached. Picture the scene, my dear missus with a jug of SWEPCO and the funnel with me on the other end, under the car, watching it fill.[:)] Trust me you will end up covered in oil..........never been known to be a slippery character tho? (groan. ed)
So, was it worth it, did it make a difference? Not noticably I'm afraid. Was hoping for an instant rebuild "feel" but no.[]
At least now I know I've got the "best" oil in my box.[;)]
For reference my car has done 143k without any rebuild on the box or engine [:D], I think the driver might need a rebuild first tho'[]
