The nearside front top mount for the strut has stopped turning meaning that the spring has to turn in its cup when the wheel is turned.
Is there a bearing in the top mount that you can replace or do i need to get a new top mount
 
I don't think the bearings are replaceable but don't hold me to that, have you tried some WD40? To replace the top mounts you'll need a pair of spring clamps to squeeze the tension out of the springs amongst other tools. Don't start to undo the big nut on the strut shaft top without doing this or the spring will fire the strut down and rip off the last couple of threads too.
 
Won't the weight of the car keep the spring compressed (assuming weight on wheels)?
