1989 944S2 Windscreen part number needed

Hi.
National Windscreens are having a problem locating a replacement screen for my 89 944S2 which has a 300mm crack through the passenger side
The only screen that they have found is a 'green tint' aerial screen which i wasn't keen about until it was pointed out to me that all my glass is apparently green tinted except the windscreen ?
Either the screen has been replaced in the past or that was standard I don't know.

Anyway the local National Windscreen fitters have requested a part number so that they can verify they are ordering and fitting the correct screen before they rip my screen out.
Can anyone that has had their screen replaced recently with Nat Windscreens give me some advice please about model part numbers, compatibility , fitting problems etc
Johnny

hi Johnny

I can't help with a part number but can say that my car has tinted green glass all around...I would expect that if your other windows are green then so should the windscreen be...perhaps Simon may be able to confirm....personally I'd fit the green tint anyway, looks much better..

I believe there is only one screen listed as available from Porsche now and it has 'top tint' , if you are going through insurance insist on a genuine item with new edging seal.

There are new aftermarket screens on EBay for £140

thanks for the quick responses guys much appreciated.
Nat Wind are coming out Thursday to remove my screen and have offered to come back in a weeks time to allow me time to repair any rust.

thanks for the tip about the edging seal. Not sure if the insurance company will include that so might have to source that and pay myself. I'll mention it to the fitter on Thursday.

the existing screen is clear and looks original . it has matching stamps to the other glass . I would prefer clear glass if I had the choice as my sight isn't what it was and I find night time driving challenging.

I have told them that I will not accept a screen with a green sun tint at the top and they have assured me that it will not have one.

i'll try and video the work

Paul where did you see that screen ? I can only find aftermarket screens at £350 + ?

All the others seem to be used.

Awesome restoration work ...amazing !.... how many coats of paint were there ?

thanks Paul
I guess you should have sent me the link by pm as some other bugga has bought it :ROFLMAO:

National Windscreens fitted one for me recently in their Glasgow depot. Green top tint, aerial, which is exactly what it was replacing. They did a wonderful job.

Remove your A-pillar trims first. They can cut through them when they’re removing the screen but it’s almost a given that they’ll bond the edges in when they refit the screen.

+1

From memory, the only market for clear screen was Sweden (ie no base spec model offered). All UK cars had all tinted glass and a top-tint was an option. A clear screen is certainly not original. If genuine Porsche then I know where it came from, and when, but that isn't the issue.

it looks like my screen must have been a replacement screen then as its definitely clear whilst all the rest of the glass is green tinted.
I know it sounds daft but in the 8 years I've had the car I've never noticed .

thanks for the tips they proved very useful today when the original screen was cut out. the fitter was very surprised to find I had prepped everything and masked up every bit of adjacent paintwork as well as removing the trim and drying everything off with a heatgun.

Only problem was he turned up with the wrong screen !..... it was 3" too short and clearly meant for a cabriolet ...
The suppliers handbook he was referring to was very confusing and there were about 10x different screens listed for the 944 including some marked 944/968 which is what was delivered.

Hopefully they will find a replacement soon
