1989 C4 3.2

Hi there,
I am a prospective porsche buyer and am looking at this C4 1989 model that' s for sale in my area. I believe this is the first model year that an AWD porsche came out right? How reliable is the AWD system on this model? Also any tips on what to look out for in terms of buying a 3.2 Carrera?
thanks.

Delhi,
The C4 AWD is rock solid. However the cars built around the 89,90 era had problems with engine oil leaks. These were less of a problem from cars of 1992 onwards.
I had a 1990 C4, amazing drive!.
Get it checked out by a specialist and enjoy.....

thanks for your reply. at the risk of sounding a complete ignoramous [:)], does the 3.2 Carreras require two spark plugs per cylinder banks as I read for the 964s? Are all 911s like that?!

Now I am am confused. I thought the 964 had a 3.6 litre displacement, not 3.2.

Have you found a 964 C4 with an earlier 3.2 engine?

The 3.2 carrera was never 4WD, and ended in 1989, the same year that the 964 (4WD and non-4WD) started. The 3.2 has one spark plug per cylinder, and the 964 two. The 3.2 has torsion bars, the 964 springs (the first 911 with springs) - there are many more differences, of course, so I will stop there.

You seem a bit confused about the two, different, models.
I own a 3.2 (1987), so maybe I can give you any info that you might want on that model.

I suppose that, strictly speaking, the 959 was the first 4WD road going porker, in 1987, but, ignoring that, the 964 was the first ' affordable' 4WD porker.

Ooops. Sorry for the confusion made. I am looking at an 89 AWD (964?) and a 90' s C2. So what you say is that 3.2s never came out with AWD? I thought it did. From reading various reviews of the 964s, I am beginning to lean more towards 3.2 911s. I' m exposed to boxer engines (current car a Scooby). changing spark plugs on a boxer engine is tough enough. Coupled it with a 6 cylinder that has two plugs per cylinder and rear engined excess.... routine maintenance might turn into an all day thing. [:D]
well anyway I am thinking to check out this 89 AWD C4 to make sure if it' s a 964 or a 3.2
