1992 944 Turbo Cobalt Blue

Just had a phone call from Tech 9 in Liverpool as the guys there service my car for me.

They have just taken delivery of a 1992 944 Turbo in Cobalt Blue with Grey marble leather. 3 owners and 90,000 miles. They said it is a really tidy example. Not seen it in the flesh yet. Although it would be a good excuse for a drive out, except my car is away too[]

Just thought I would let everyone know in case some one is after what sounds like a nice example.

I do not think it is on their website yet, they only got it in yesterday.

Their number is 0151 4255911 ask for Kelvin .

I think they want £7,995 for it, but if you mention my name and the club forum I got the impression it would be cheaper[:D]

Sounds like good money! Here's hoping it's got M030 and a full service history!

Are you looking for one?

Let me know and I could always pop and have a look prior to a long drive from Lincs.

Hi Lee, generous offer thanks. Yeah I've finished painting the garage floor today so I'm all geared up now! I'm looking for a 250bhp model, with M030 and good service history. Ideally in black but blue is not a bad second! If you get chance to pop over and have a look that would be great - much obliged. Ben.

Away with work this week but on my return I will pop past and have a look for you Ben, unless you ring them and have a chat in the meantime.

Just spoke to Kelvin at Tech 9, it's actually an '89 car on a G plate. LSD and sachs adjustable dampers (!?), loads of history and Tech 9 will fully service and do the belts and rollers before sale. Price includes 12 month warantee if no part ex. Very tempting!

It's not going to be Cobalt blue if it's a G-plate - probably Baltic blue which while still nice is nowhere near so desirable as it's gone from being a rare to one of the most common colours.

Similarly grey marble (which I took to be Classic grey) wasn't available on a G-plate. Probably Linen.

Are you sure it's the same car?

Yeah I saw your post in the colours thread re Cobalt blue and wondered if he might have it wrong. As for the leather, it is Linen apparently. Hopefully going to have the chance to see it Monday night... Will be good to be able to drive 220 and 250 versions back to back.

The 220 will drive better if they are both standard, but if you want to modify it and use it on track the 250 will be the better car. If you don't want to modify it then an S2 would be a better drive even than the 220.

I'll be looking for about 300bhp. I think that is the best compromise between power, cost and drivability from what I've read on this forum (and it sounds good in the pub too!). I would hope a promax level 2 would do it for the 250 model, and perhaps a level 2 and uprated turbo for the 220 model?

I'd forget the 220 then if I were you. By the time you add a turbo and labour to fit and start looking at bigger brakes etc. you'll have eaten into the cost differential so much you may as well just have bought something with the right bits to start with - your target is exactly where a 250 makes most sense. If you were aiming for 400bhp then you'd have to replace a lot of even the 250 model's parts so while you'd still be better with the right hubs and driveshafts etc. there might be more of a case for spending less on a 220 donor car to leave more budget for the new parts.

Also if you can afford to look at a car at £7,995 then don't waste your time looking at cars a dealer has up at £4,495 because dealers aren't charities and therefore you can bet the cheaper one is not as good a car as the dearer one - that said all that's up for top money isn't top quality, but dealers don't undersell their stock.

Sorry about the mis information, only relaying what I was told on the phone.

Have you seen this :

Not the best colour in the Porsche pallette but
"Factory 250bhp model with sensible, proven mods to give reliable 300bhp (dyno'd)".

Been discussed here and on Titanic several times, belongs to a ex-poster on here, quite a decent car this time last year when I went to the 'Ring in it but could have been tidied a bit cosmetically, supposedly blistering a bit now on the sills.

Could always just buy the right car to begin with.

There are cars with 290bhp, 80k miles, 968M030, Cup tyres, non working aircon available at a price.

Is that a hint Davyboy? Would certainluy be interested in yours if it is! I haven't been to see it yet but am hoping to go on Monday. Calvin sent me some pics and it looks like Baltic Blue. Very nice inside and out from the pics, wearing Turbo S forged rims (not my preference but still...)
I've seen the car drummerboytom refers to and it's very tempting, but I'm so far away! Might have the excuse to get down there early next month if it's still available.

Just to update you all, went to see this car today. It's an SE in Baltic Blue with Linen leather. 94k, full service record, paint isn't the best but mechanically and inside it's in very good condition. I was impressed by Calvin and the guys at Tech 9 - certainly seem to know their stuff. Great car but I think I'm hooked on a black one!?!
