Hello to all - my first time ever on anything like this,so please be patient with me !. Anybody's help or advice, please, gratefully accepted.
We bought a 1993 Carrera 4 Cabriolet in March 2011.It had (genuinely) 12,500 miles on the "clock".My wife uses it day on day and loves it.We owned a 911SC 30years ago and it was great to return to the marque we love. The car we purchased had been totally cherished and driven seldom - I have a full service history for nearly every year by Porsche Guildford.Today it now has 21,000 miles on it.We were due to drive to Spain as we did last year and asked a local Porsche garage we know to just check it over and service as necessary for this trip. Can you imagine our horror to get a call to come straight down. They had routinely put a camera in the engine and found 2 damaged cylinders. We were then shown the black smoke from the left exhaust. The answer we are told - a new Posche engine. My wife is distraught - least of all because she has been told this engine will cost around £14k.Is there any history of this problem with this engine, here or in the States ? We have just got back from Spain, but prior to our trip I did speak to Customer services at Porsche GB to notify them of our problem, and that I would take it up with them on my return.
I know when you buy a car 9 years old "you pays your money and takes your chances".On the other hand surely a brand as prestigeous should not be u/s after only 21,000 miles ? Any thoughts on any redress from Porsche GB ? If they would help / sponsor I would happily take warranty for a period of years to help pay back. Any thoughts or advice ?
Thank you for taking the time to read "War and Peace" - it's just that we're a bit stumped on where to start with this ?
Regards, Peter
