1997 Boxster - Windows dont auto close once roof closing is complete...

Hi,

1997 Boxster.

My windows dont auto close once I lock the roof shut. I assume they should do since they drop a few inches on un-locking the roof?

All other window operations appear to work OK, I think.

Any ideas where I should start looking??

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,

Jules

The windows did not automatically close on locking the hood on my 1997 Boxster, I assumed this was normal as both windows were the same and all other functions were okay.

The passenger window also failed to operate correctly on my 2003, this was found to be a corroded terminal on the control module and was sorted in about 30 minutes by my OPC.

The microswitch on the windscreen top would be a good place to start.

The windows on the earlier Boxster and Boxster S do not auto close "" if I remember correctly auto close did not come into effect until the 2002 model (face lift)

I have a 1997 and they do not auto close. I also remember that this feature started for model year 2002. I remember this because we took the top relay out of a new 2002 and tried it in a 1998 - but it did not work in the 1998.

Odd - I'm sure they close on mine (a 2001MY)...

They don't go back up when you lower the roof (there is the 2" gap at front and "top"), but on closing the roof they do close on latching the hood.

Same as my old '01 which was a pre glass window (but post the "electronic lid release" facelift!)....

Oops must have got the date wrong[] "" they did not go up automatically on my 1997 2.5 and do not on my 2000 S "" all the pre 2001 models I have driven (and it is literally 100's) also have not gone up automatically.

Today I checked with the leading technicians at OPC Reading and PCGB "" they advise that it is not possible to convert the early Boxsters for auto closing of the windows on latching the roof. Apparently the wiring loom is different on the pre 2001 model year cars "" there was something else other than different relay but I cannot remember what.
I would have liked to convert my 2000 S (but never thought of it until you posed the question).

Well, thanks for the replies guys,

So the consensus seems to be that my 1997 Boxster should not have auto-closing windows. Humph!![]

Oh well, at least it's only a couple of buttons to press [:D]

All that old fashioned winding a handle would be too much [:D]

(A question - if you lock the car with the remote and then keep the "lock" button pressed, do the windows auto-close? Or is that only the later models too? [&o])

Yes they do on my 2000 S but I cannot remember if they did on my previous model
