I have just bought a 1998 2.5 boxster that had been garaged for 5 years it is now up and running with a new mot the problem i have is with the alarm going off a few minutes after i have locked the car with the key via the drivers door (I only have the 1 key and the fob doesnt lock the car remotely) i think it might be due to the fact that the boot light on the dashboard is telling me the boot is open when it is not. could a faulty boot lock micro switch be setting the alarm off? thanks

Could be, it is one of the monitored areas of the car.

If a monitored area is triggered then the alarm will go off for 3 min, and the indicators and passenger compartment light will flash for 4 minutes.
The LED showing the alarm is active gives a double flash instead of the normal single.

When you lock the car does it just lock, or does the horn give a "bip" (if it does this indicates that one of the monitored areas is not "closed").
In other words, if the horn gives a short bip when you lock the car then something is not right.

Hi thanks for the response yes the horn does give a bip when i lock the car, then the alarm goes off shortly after, where do i start on finding which door ,front or rear compartment is at fault? thanks

From your OP, I would think that the boot light microswitch is your starting point. Try shorting it out first to see if it's at fault. If not, use the same procedure in turn for the bonnet and doors.
