1998 year production targa?

I am interested in buying a 993 Targa in Pastel Yellow with a 'W' as the 10th Chassis digit. This means it was produced after Sep 1997 but such production does not feature in either the Porsche 911 Red Book 1965-1999 or in Peter Morgan's Original Porsche 911 - the Guide to all productin models 1963-98. Were 993 Targas produced for the 1998 model year?

Hi Bob

According to Peter Morgan's Ultimate buyers guide for the 993 Targas chassis vin numbers ran from ---WS380001-0272 withengine numbers 63w00001 onwards.

The Targa runs with a Vin --WS38 etc while the Carrera's run ---WS31 etc Tiptronic are the same as Carrera while Cabriolet's are --WS33 etc.

If you want good info before buying Peter's book is a very good guide at about £9

Hope this is helpful.

FYI - When I was searching for my current car ('R' 98 4S) I came across a S plated Aug 98 Targa up in Edinburgh. So yes they do exist. Mine is also W on the chassis digit. Don't forget that the 993 and 996 ran concurrently for a period of time as there was no 4S or Targa until some time later in the 996 model.
