Hi
I'm looking at my 1st boxster. It's a 05 plate...new shape with 17inch wheels. It's on for 13994. Any comments....also what should I be aware of before buying. It's on sale at evans halshaw.

Thanks

Rich

I've no idea from your post what you are looking at other than a Boxster - either put in a link to the car or list the car properly so people can comment. ie - 987 Boxster S 3.2 Manual - FSH - Options - Colour etc etc and then people can say what they think. Drive the full range before committing to anything![;)]

17" wheels must be a 2.7 engine, 5 speed gearbox in the 987 model. Nothing wrong with that at all, just ensure it has half leather (rather than the plastic/alcantara that isn't liked in the used car market), and a wind deflector. Anything extra after that (heated seats, auto air con, full leather, sound upgrades etc etc etc) are all bonuses. Check for full service history (Porsche independent garages is ok), check the brake discs aren't very rusty (sign its stood for several weeks) and the tyres have an N designation on the sidewall (Porsche appproved - might be N1,N2,N3 dependent on what tyres are fitted). I'd also check what the limit is on the evans halshaw waranty - an engine rebuild for IMS failure is £5.5k upwards, or a new engine from Porsche £10k.

Check the RMS would be my 1st check- Rear Main Seal ........they nearly all leak and an expensive job. Google it Save a lot of money and buy a 2001 -2004 2.7 986 which doesn't suffer from the water / oil mix which affected some of the early 2.5 cars resulting in engine failure in some cases. Put some clear lights on it ( about £1K) and it doesn't look that much different to a 987. Some good deals around on them if you look carefully. Kind regards

Um..... What? I think you've mixed up a few things there. There were some slipped/porous engine liners in limited number of engines, but if they have lasted this long then they are probably ok! Where did the oil/water thing come from?!!!
