1st race of the season - donington 28 March

Doing something slightly different this year and trying to race mostly at Donington, or at least the local tracks to cut down on travel and accom costs, and time away. So, doing a mix of CSCC, 750 Roadsports and 360mrc races.

1st race of the season in the 924S is on 28 March at Donington. A 45 min Roadsports race. This series has classes based on power to weight so I should be in with a bigger number of cars in the class thn I'm used to, Mostly MR2s and BMW Compacts by the looks of last season. Should be interesting anyway.

Just got to remember where I left the car and see if it needs a wash now!

Thanks Dave. I'm looking forward to it, although I think it's going to be a very busy 45 min race! And I'm driving alone, which I don't normally do, so will be tiring.

That Roadsports grid is massive! Unfortunately I doubt I'll be able to make it as the first Britcar races of the season are at Silverstone on the same weekend - so I'll miss the MR2s too. Have a great one and stay off the beach(es)!

Chris.

Chris.

Indeed. Full grid of 36 plus reserves. Class C, where I should be is 16 strong. Busy, busy, particularly as the classes are power to weight based so quite close to each other in theoretical performance!

I will do,my best to stay on the black stuff! Shame you won't be there, Chris. More cars in this one race than at the whole of the Britcar meeting I'd have thought!!!

Had one of my most enjoyable races ever yesterday, although the day started badly having damaged the exhaust getting it off the trailer and weather conditions for practice that were amongst the worst I have ever been on track in.

Practice was just a case of survival but I thought I had driven pretty well really. I was therefore very surprised to be 34th on the grid out of 36! And 16th out of 17 in class. Must some good drivers with big balls in this series!

The race was dry thankfully but there was a bad accident at the first corner which saw 4 cars badly damaged, one of them a Boxster. Fortunately no injuries that I am aware of. Indeed, there were 3 safety car periods in total.

I had some Really great battles with numerous pesky MR2, MX5 and BMW Compacts throughout the race and ended up finishing 19th overall and 8th in class. Great fun and I was pretty pleased with that, considering where I started. Best time of 1 min 30.8 which is 1 sec slower than I managed in a CSCC race last year but most people seemed slightly slower than their times from last year. Maybe cold conditions and high winds didn't help.

Apart from the exhaust problem, which needed a very jury rigged repair, the 924S handled really well as usual and this power to weight class formula seems to suit it. I t's competitive with the aforementioned MR2, MX5 and Compacts and In my battles I was often slower entering corners but quicker through them and on exist and I suspect the engine may be a bit more torquey than the 2 litre cars, giving me fairly decent straight line speed compared to the others.

All in all good day.

I do think that this an ideal series for 924, 924S and 2.5 litre 944 as they suit the power to weight class C very well.

That was David Skellington who was a rookie in the BRSCC Porsches last season. Hope he's OK.

Any idea why the three Boxsters ended up in separate classes?

Chris.

I'm not doing Brands this year, and work gets in the way until 8 May now anyway. I may do CSCC Future Classics (Porsche Transaxle class) at Silverstone on 10 May but not sure yet. No idea about the Boxsters but the classification seems to depend on drivers self certifying their power to weight so maybe that's at the heart of the confusion?
