1st Service Costs

Ive just been quoted (from my OPC) £350 for my Boxster S's first sevice.
The car has only done 7k miles, this sounds alot to me seeing as usually they just kick the tyres and pee in the fuel tank!!

Has anyone found it cheaper else where and whats the deal with OPC vs non OPC?

As the car has done less than 8K miles it should only need an Annual Service (rather than the 12K real service).
This is described in the Service Record book.

It should be a lot cheaper than £350, and that sounds high for a 12K service as well!

Where was this?

Got mine done at Porsche Centre newcastle last Friday, £115 inc VAT , 10% PCGB discount, supplied my own Mobil 1.

03S first service 6770 miles[;)]

£350 sounds about right if you include oil and a replacement oil filter if you specified this. Without an oil filter and just including a PCGB discount around £300-£320 sounds about right I was quoted £371 by OPC West London just a few weeks ago as the prices had gone up on 01 January 2004. As I had booked the service last December and had been quoted around £320, I complained and in view of other complications (see Porsche Centre West London thread!) they relented and charged me £320 - this price also included an oil filter change and a PCGB 10% discount.

It's a lot of money for an oil change and a pollen filter change.

Phil I posted the following on 21/01/04 regarding servicing low mileage Porsche:-

My MY03 "S" will need it's first service in March so I emailed 7 OPC's the following info
"Please can you confirm a price for the following work due this March and also if
you allow the 10% PCGB Membership Discount on this service.
I will be supplying my own Mobil 1
March 03 Boxster "S" 1st Service Mileage 4000 Apprx"

I received 5 replies with prices ranging from £235.00 - 266.00 incl of VAT & Any discounts. (3 Gave the 10% 2 don't)

But 2 OPC's advised me as follows:-

Any car with under 9000 miles can OFFICIALLY have an oil change & diagnostic check while you wait all for a cost of £84.95 labour less 10% + VAT 1st offer and £92.00 labour less 10% + VAT from the other OPC. (Oil from these guys was apprx £110.00 incl)

The £92.00ph OPC also said if the work was done in 30 minutes to 45 minutes the labour charge would be adjusted accordingly.

So for a sub 9K miles p.a. owner like myself, supplying my own Mobil 1 (purchased for £4.50 odd per litre from a Costco Special Offer) one years motoring can be had for under £140.00.

I can repeat this service in 05 if mileage done to date is similar plus a brake fluid change will be required.

Looks like 2/7 OPC's emailed here are finally getting with the plot..........

The 2 who offered the correct deal were OPC Silverstone & Reading.

I have since got my local OPC to also match this offer

Daro911,

Thanks it was your post that prompted me to ask about the limited service. They told me that so many people going for this option was one of the main reasons for extending the service intervals on MY04 cars.

Ashley I am glad my research managed to save you some money and it's just a shame that some of the OPC's out there are not freely willing to advise their customers accordingly.

I have been aware of this service system for low mileage cars since 1993 when I was introduced to it by Porsche Cars GB who were then looking after my 89 Speedster and as we all know since my 89 Speedster, a car based on 1983 technolody, cars have become far more maintenance free which says it all really [:)]
