Morning all,

need some advice on the value of early cars..I have recently started looking for a 2.0/2.2 or 2.4 S model... I do not want a project, i dont have time for that, i want to enjoy the car from the get go...what am i going to have to pay and what should i look out for..i appreciate a thorough inspection will be required as i want to make sure i am getting a genuine matching numbers car thats not been made up from a different model/s.. all imput gratefully received :)

cheers

I have been involved in the sale or purchase of 3 RHD 2.4Ss over the last few weeks. All have sold at around £40K, but each has needed at least £15K spent on them to get them right, despite all being "drivers". I am also aware of another RHD 2.4S selling at £90K a few days ago. I know of another very nice one for sale at around £80K and I'm sure I could persuade one of my customers to part with his Light Yellow one for that kind of money.

The 2.0S and 2.2S are more difficult to price due to their rarity. There is a dealer selling a very nice Tangerine RHD 68S for just over £40K at the moment, a 2.2S in similar condition would be at least £10K more.

my interest stems from a 67 2.0s that is for sale restored by tuthills not too long ago...60k miles but has been converted from sport to manual...so i guess this cannot be truely described as matching numbers howeveer as you mention the scarcety of the cars and obvioulsy confition should be more important?

coys had 2 x 2.2s for sale recently in blutorange and albert blue i think LHD

i have to add i have not driven a 911 of this era so feedback on the 2.0 vs 2.2 vs 2.4 would be welcome, in S guise.

cheers

Paul Stephens recently sold a 2.4S matching numbers and restored in a light blue metalic absolutely stunning with history for 40k. Still on their website as "deposit taken"

yep saw that, its a bitsa car... so hard to define its value and therefor resale...personally i was looking for something matching numbers, original..

It was not matching numbers, I inspected the car for a customer, and it certainly needed money spent on it.

as a bit of a joke ( long story ) I was going to put a for sale sign in the window of my car at Hedingham for £70K ..... until it was pointed out it would have been the cheapest 2.4S there by a long way & it might have actually sold !!! [;)]

Mine's not for sale .... but it seems my agreed value insurance is a bit low these day [8|]

Hi thats was my car. it's restoration has been well docummented on DDK and in Total 911 magazine. i sold it after fulling out with Tuthills having spent well over £30k on restoration with them i was still having major problems with the electrics. i eventually gave up on Tuthills and took the car to a car electrician who sorted it all within 10 mins....it was just loose wiring to the starter motor.
anyway to cut a long story short.. having had my fun with the car and with a new Project (my 356a) needing money spending on it. LOF 10F went as soon as i was offered the right money...
its a very good car.
