2.4S values - anybody seen one for sale ?

Andrew Tempest

New member
I'm trying to increase the agreed value on my insurance. The broker asked for a club valuation , which I've obtained and sent off. But the underwriter thinks the amount is too high and I'm trying to find some additional justification.

Has anybody seen any for sale/know of any sold recently ? - the higher the price the better !

Or can anyone suggest or recommend somebody who does valuations ? - I'm happy to pay (within reason).

Thanks

I have my 2.4S insured for £36k agreed value with a PCGB valuation.

The insurance company is Classicline but I found a number would not consider
anything above their book guide of £18k.

Peter Morgan www.petermorgan.org.uk/ or telephone 01672 514038 might also be able to help . . . . he's got a 2.4S and had no end of trouble with his insurers (see recent 911 world article) . . so might be sympathetic.

Guys . . . remind me . . . did I do your PCGB valuations????

Phil

Phil,

My valuation was signed by Steve Kevlin.

Nick,

On my own I'd managed to come up with a short list of two people to contact - you were one of them !. I may give you a ring tomorrow if I can avoid being too busy at work.

Steve Kevlin also did mine nearly two years ago.
I am going to need mine updating in the next couple of months, are you doing them now Phil.

interesting subject. I'm just re-newing my insurance & I have not updated my agreed valuation for a couple of years.

General comment , i know one at least has gone through in mid £40k region..........beautifully restored ,all matching numbers , limited history and a colour change .........................has anyone seen one at £50k ..............must be on the cards ????

I have raised the subject of valuations to a number of board members . . . specifically asking for guidelines, as it's my understanding that it is the Register Secretaries that now carry out the valuation (having a better understanding of the market and potential problems). Hopefully now Brands is over something might happen on this front.

It's not something I enjoy doing as people often think their cars are worth more than they are [;)] . . . . plus it makes me nervous commenting on the value of someone's car (working from just photo's) . . . plus it's a pain in the bum (who likes writing letters). . . . but it's a benefit of being a member, so it must be done.

There is a form on the PCGB homepage that asks general info and says send it to Club Office . . . I'd prefer it if photo's (ideally proper photo's not digital prints) and car details are sent to me directly (address in back of post). Like I say you have to be a member (and I know there's some people on here that have not re-newed their membership but still have access to the forum).

Cheers
Phil

Steve Kevlin did my valuation and I insured with Heritage and no problems. They also give free track day cover.

You can tell Vics bought one, now it's time to talk up the price. Once a dodgy city trader always a dodgy city trader.

So u vant one ??......................someones spent some money on the Gemini blue one now at Autofarm ...............cud still be a nice car if u pay up ! Dont think they ll let it go less than £40 ish and £12k wud nt have put it right ....so how abt cost £50plus ??

MW (WWC) restored one for a customer not so long ago and the cost was over £50k. you only have to speak to Robert Gant to understand why.

'Original' cars are so rare that a restoration is often the only option. Thing is, it costs much the same to restore a T or an S, or an even an RS. Therefore it's often best to buy a car that someone else has spent a fortune on, providing it has been done correctly.

There's a rhd 'T' in the latest PP that had a "£65k" restoration, an interesting Gemini 2.4E. And the white (Ivory?) 2.4E - is this the same one that seems to come up for sale fairly regularly?

Anyone know how much Autofarm are asking for the Gemini Blue S?
They are asking £35k for the heavily modified non matching numbers Gulf Blue one. Must be considerably more than that.

I believe IRO £40k ...................i saw it when it was 1 owner , did lots of checks and found plenty of cross references, the mileage was to the mile, identical to what it read abt 10 years ealier, only from memory i think its actually less now ! ..................there was NO substantive history and 1 MOT ..............perhaps all these have been, er, found ? It had had a good frontal impact and was very shiny but many coloured , with interesting door alignment , i knew nothing abt the g/box needing repair since the guy who bought it from the Greek owner would nt let it be taken out of the yard ................i still wanted to do a deal , its one of my favourite colours and seemed pretty sound , all the expensive bits were there! I did not want to pay the asking price and called in an expert who after exhaustive inspection confirmed it was worth a lot less than the owner was asking, for example it had new calipers but the rest of the suspension and underneath were a real mess..............if one allowed for the cost of restoring to AVERAGE , not concours or something special ,it would have been alot more than £12k of bills it seems to have acquired ...............as luck would have it i found an all matching numbers S for abt £20k and as Mike rightly infers u can spend loads ............i shall have it finished in the next month [its taken a year] i know the full history and most importantly exactly where i stand ..........................Total cost i admit over budget ! Mike ur not wrong ! Almost too good to use daily but thats what i am hoping to do .................... By the way bodywork on mine done by same shop MW used for the silver one ur quoting from abt 2 years back

Look forward to seeing your car when its finished, sounds like its going to be nice

Engine goes back in on Monday...................i am looking fwd to driving it ,last time was August 2004 , round an empty Silverstone Car Park before i bought it!!!

Values for the 2.4S -- difficult -- can't be many changing hands, and mostly privately, so how to establish a going rate when the market is so thin? My Targa has an agreed value of
£18K which must be somewhat over the top, but the Insurer hasn't
argued. And what about this story that Targas are worth less because the joins flex more and let in the water ?
