2.7 8v Cam Tappets / lifters / followers (or what ever they are called)

All,

So service before last (not in my care) 2 of the Cam followers were changed due to excessive noise...

My question is - on the 8v engine - are they easy to do??

Also - I would have thought that whilst you are there you would change all 8 - does anyone have any idea on how much these cost?? I take it they are hydrolic - sure they are...

There is a slight 'tap' I think when at certain revs - and when startup from cold... nothing too noisey at all - but I know its there if you know what I mean so think I will look into getting all 8 changed.

Guess no one knows [:)]

But I do have a slight update.....:
Car was running 10w40 semi, and only changed 2k ago (that was 6 months ago)... Since I have changed to Mobil Motorsport 15w50 - the VERY faint tap noise has gone!!!.. Engine sounds mint now...

The TAP was so faint - I actually dont even think it was an issue - and had a feeling that it could have been the injectors anyway - but the Mobil 15w50 has defo quietened the engine I think....

I guess it could just have been the fresh oil change and the fact its fully synth.........and I have gained 1 unit on the preasure guage when the oil is hot [:D]

I've just had 16 done (don't ask) and they were £35 ex vat each for OEM so guess this is a good guide

Do you have to bring it up - I'd just started to recover[;)]

Labour was £260 ex vat but to be fair included all diagnostics (see 'biting my nails' thread), engine flush, oil & filter change, new oil pressure sensor fit, rethread tensioner mounting bolt, some other little bits and pieces.

Well as a update in case anyone may be even slightly interested.... [:)] went to GT One in Chertsey during my lunch for them to cast an ear over the car... result is NO cam / tappet issue at all.. [:D] aparently sounds just like it should [:)]

That's good news - the injectors are quite noisy on these cars, maybe that's what you heard?

You'll know when the lifters are noisy - they make an awful racket!

I've taken the vanity cover off the fuel rail on the S2 and they're even more noisy without it [8|]. Does weigh a lot though... [;)]
