2.7 l Boxster Flat Spot

New member
Hi my 1999, 2.7L Boxster seems to have a flat spot when revving over 4000rpm...new O2 Sensors, Coils and Plugs, and full service including fuel filter ...is it likely to be the fuel pump, or the air analyser or something else?

Any ideas to avoid me throwing money at it ..

Thanks

Ken

Thanks for that..I will try that..I was only put-off when doing the other work by the security spline screws, the tools for which which are quite difficult to get here in Spain..I will persevere...thanks for your answer..

Appreciated

Ken

Ken,

The MAF is worth checking, and if your early Boxster has an electronic throttle that’s another possibility, as is a fault with the variable valve timing. Unfortunately the best way to check-out electronic-related faults is to run some Porsche-specific diagnostics - PIWIS or equivalent to give you a clue as to where the problem lies.

Ken,

If you have the 2.7L engine I reckon that you’ll have the electronic throttle as well as the resonance intake manifold, and I suppose another possibility is that the vacuum-operated butterfly valve in the manifold is faulty.

Hi Ken
I had the same on my 2004 2.7 986 during first lockdown and I was told it could be 02 sensors. I was also getting an engine fault message. So I bought a diag box, took it to a garage when they opened up again, all to no avail.
However another piece advise I was given was to go out for a long drive and keep the revs up at a good constant level - no hardship...
Bingo it worked ! Never had the problem since??
Good luck - keep Boxstering ??
