2 HEAD GASKETS GONE IN 1st DAY AND A LEAKY ROOF - HELP

Hi, I bought a 2.5 boxster 97, only 35000 miles on clock and I know its not a new car, but within the 1st day the emissions light came on and the diagnosis was cylinder 1 and 4/head gaskets needed sorting. Now I have kicked up a huge fuss with garage, who now are looking for a 2.7 engine for as a replacement. now after alot of calls to solicitors and trading stds things are now getting sorted and I wont have to be out of pocket.. but still not happy experience... [:(] so I have the following questions if someone could pls take the time in answering?

1. can a 2.7 engine be put into it? if so can I expect any further problems?
2.is it normal for warranty company (autoprotect) to only cover 2000 pounds worth of stuff? this is only going to cover labour - not fussed this time round as not paying, but future knowledge needed.

further, cus some reason Ive been bad in previous life or something the roof is not leaking, but massive condensation is forming on inside and in mornings if u touch it, it will drip inside and obviously car is misting up, is there something that can be donw about this without having to get new roof, and if so where pls? Am in cheshire and manchester region.

all help and information gratefully received thanks

Terrible luck...but glad things are going to get sorted out for you.

Non Porsche warrantys often have such limits, the Porsche one - at £895 doesn't have any limits.

The condensation is probably caused by a blocked roof drainage channel not a leaking roof. Check under the passenger seat for water ingress. If so, you need to get the channel unblocked, and remove the water as soon as possible. The Alarm control unit is under the seat and if damaged will be expensive to replace and the car may not start on occasions.

Good luck

Sorry to hear of your woes. The 2.7 engine won't go in the 2.5 cars without a lot of hassle. Although the engines are the same phyical size they use different engine management systems. Basically, the 2.5 is cable throttle and the 2.7 is eGas (drive-by-wire). It isn't just a case of changing ECU's and accelerator pedal either, as you would also need to make various changes to the CAN wiring.

A 3.4 litre non-egas 996 engine would be an easier proposition, but this needs a couple of modifications to the engine mounting. There is a guy on Renntech who has done this a few times - he now has a 3.6 litre X50 engine in his 1998 2.5. That must be quite something.

Sorry to hear about your first bad experiance with a Porsche..as you stated you have been to TS if this is the case I would reject the car as unfit for purpose as it was bought from a trader ,there are far to many good ones about to have to put up with this ,hope it all works out well

Get a 2.5 engine to replace it.
When you sell the car it will be classed as modified by having the 2.7 lump and i think you will find it hard to convince people its OK, including the insurrance people.
Plenty of 2.5 engines about (Try Porsche Apart)

The other problems of fitting the 2.7 have been identified above.

Day one and all this grief personally I would reject the car and get my money back. There are 1000's of excellent used Boxsters out there so why get involved with a potential dog possibly with fleas.

Who suggested the 2.7 conversion? Very bad move and potentionally another massive can of worms being opened up

Sorry to learn of your bad experience and hope you get it sorted quickly and preferably with a full refund [&o]

wow thanks guys, what an awesome and informative response! have booked it into the garage and getting work done, but the dealer has said that if not happy with work then I can reject so will see what happens. Def going to see if they can get a 2.5 engine for it then as it appears far simpler and less invasive.

thanks again everyone

Sorry save you self time and anquish reject the car and get your money back ..once you have accepted a repair you will possibly be stuck seek the advice by TS as has been said there are 1000 out there

yeah I have investigated that avenue and seller said he would not accept it as rejected, spoke to TS and they said obviously I have a case and would win, but because its more than 5000 threshold, cant go to small claims, would have to go to court and that would take too long and cost more than can shall out at moment, even though will get costs back. more down to seller not wanting car in state it is, whereas can get repaired and then he said if not happy can reject it then. have spoken to TS and said probably best way to go..

Can you get that right to "reject after repair" in writing from the horse trader who sold you this Boxster? If you can I would and if you can't then I would definitely reject now and jump through what ever hoops the law says in order to come out a winner in the end

I can't stress strongly enough how many "1000's" of first class pampered cars are alive and well out there for sale right now ... Good luck

Have to agree with Robert ..I would get everything in writing ,but would be more inclined to totaly reject the car ,scottish law is some what differant we would just send in the heavy team [:D] amazingly how quick they pay up
Good luck to whatever action you take

IMH{legal}O, you should reject the car and get your money back from the dealer. Such problems on day 1 obviously entitle you to take that step.

I would be a bit worried about allowing the dealer do something which could affect your legal rights - even if you get the offer confirmed in writing.

Get the money back and find another Boxster - as others have pointed out, there are lots out there.
