I'm thinking, I must be mad or stupid. I am driving mine to Spain on the PCGB trip....the entire way not by boat....and back again. Will it make it? This is how Porsche has me. Scared sh1tless! I was hoping to enjoy the ride, top down, sun shining listening to the music. In reality it will be no music, ears pierced listening for a noise, eyes peeled at the guages looking for a warning light. What a nightmare.

At least I am going to put it in for a MAJOR service the week before I go.....even though it isn;t due for one!

[]If it aint broke don't try and fix it ... Think of all the 99 C2's running around trouble free the numbers must be in the 10,000's and if that doesn't do it for you then by a Q Link :ROFLMAO: Ignore the blurb they work. Enjoy the Spainish trip and chill

The renntech threads relate to one with loss of compression on No.4 cylinder (a broken valve spring has been suggested) which is highly uncommon. The other is a bearing failure, and I would put money on it being an intermediate shaft bearing, which is a known issue.

I agree with Daro911 - if your car isn't due a service it won't do any good doing one. It certainly won't prevent either of these types of failure.

I think we ought to have a whip-round for a Q-Link for Berny.

I was the Liverpool OPC to get a service kit for the 964 and happened to say how glad I was to have an aircooled model surrounded as I was by 996 & 967's plus Turbo's.
What I have never realised is that the turbo engine just has water cooled cylinder heads, the bottom end is identical to the 964,993 engines
so swap to a Turbo.

the turbo engine just has water cooled cylinder heads

And cylinders, one hopes ! (Unless we are going back to the 959).

Which would make it just like any other modern engine.

Hi Richard, that's mine engine... I know that's a known issue but... do you know where to find some literature about it? Next week I'm going to leave my car to an official Porsche service... they will have to send PAG a full report about my car and then, the cure is changing the engine with a new one.
I've been told that then, after having paid the full bill, PAG may refund some %.. that may be 0% to 100% depending... depending how much you are lucky!...

I don't know what to say... PAG seems to be completely indifferent to what many hundreds of customers can say about Porsche's quality, and post-sell treatment... I stop here... I don't say no more!

Thanks for any support

Be very weary of that plot. What they (your OPC) are saying to you is that they will put in an application for good-will for you (to Reading). In my experience it doesn't work out. On my 1st RMS replacement my OPC rang me to say they had done the RMS but I could not take the car because the header tank had broken. This amazed me because it wasn;t broken before I took it in. Anyway, they said they had to order one. Two days later it arrived and they rang again and they said that because it broke in the shop they would put it in, I would have to pay for it, but they would apply for good will for it it and refund me. Well, the good will claim was refused and it cost me £400 in the end.

'maximumnoise' is from Italy, so the 'customer service' issue sounds like it is pan-European!

I have heard about the intermediate shaft bearings problem from threads on this and other forums. Also, I know an independent specialist who has experienced it with a customer's car. I'm afraid I don't have any specific information, but suggest you do a search on renntech and rennlist.

Now that I have the protection of the extended warranty, I would actually quite like my engine to erupt in an oily, smokey, terminal cloud, providing of course Porsche didn't wriggle out of their responsibilities and it happened within pushing distance of an OPC who do give a damn. Would make a good photo-op for publishing in Evo/Car/Autocar/Whatever...

Hi Scouser.
You're right, it's an "application for good-will", but I didn't know how to translate it... here is colled "correntezza" (that means something about the state of use).
Regarding your experience... thieves are common everywhere! But internet give us the force of knowledge!
Anyway, fortunately I know many people and I'm confident that things will go in a "professional" way...
If I will not get ANY decent answer to my claim I will fulfill this everywhere!
And, of course, if the solution will be acceptable I'll tell everybody "hey, I'm very happy, they have treated me very well..."
