As some may have guessed I am new to Porsche ownership, having left behind my Audi TT Coupe, and now the proud owner of a 2002 996 Cab, finished in Guards Red / Black interior, with both Hard and soft tops. (only 18K miles) and one owner prior to me.

Have had one annoying little prob with a fan wanting to run when it shouldn't ( reported in previous post ) but that apart, what a rewarding experience, my only comment would be I do not have as many toys in the 996 as I did in my Audi, but the smile the car puts on your face is worth the sacrifice.

The car has full Main Dealer stamped history, and was wondering whether to get one final years OPC Warranty, I have a well reputed Independent local to me and the cost of warranty would go a long way with them. I intend to try and keep the car so change from main agent would not worry me.

Question: has anyone experience in "DiamondBrite" Paint guarding, the car is immaculate with only one tiny stone chip that has been well touched in, and wonder if this type of protection would help preserve the lustre.

Rather than those often high priced paint protection systems proffered by dealers I would prefer to use a quality wax such as Zymol.

We have an Audi that came with a paint protection system, and it is frankly, rubbish. Use quality waxes/polishes. far better results.

hav had two experiances with expensive paint coatings and both crap, after year or two they start to come off and leave your car looking very dull and old.dont waste your money use the 4 or 5 hundred quid it cost and buy 10 years of decent polish.

Save your money and use a good quality wax (lots of opinions on this site on different products), best look at a lot of cars (at a concours or show or regional meet) and ask the owners what waxes they use and also what prep they do. Look for cars that look good with the same colour as your car and find out what the owner uses..

If a big lump of debris hits your paintwork at speed NOTHING will prevent damage to paint and or metal but good quality waxes will at least protect from normal road detritus.
