2 years/20,000 mile air filter?

It sounds a long time to me - I decided to swap mine since it had not been done when I got the car and was not done on the minor service after I collected the car.

Glad I did TBH.

I have always been a new filter every year man in the past!.

I suppose that it depends very much on your annual mileage Chris. At least it looks as though the filter's doing its job properly. I'd be more worried if it looked like that on the inside of the filter..! I believe that the filter volume was increased significantly on the Gen2 cars because the recommended interval for my Cayman is 60,000 miles/6 years. Jeff

Is it easy to do yourself or is it best to get my OPC to do it. A&G

Piece of cake TBH - lift out the carpet, undo the 5 torx screws and lift the engine cover off. Remove the 2 pozi screws on the filter cover and remove - then undue the pozi screws retaining the filter and remove. Reverse the process for the new filter. Photo's etc. here...... http://www.planet-9.com/reviews/service-items/p12-porsche-engine-cover26amp-3b-air-filter-removal.html Not sure I would run 60k before a filter change in any car!.

Just to correct my previous comment. The larger air filter was introduced on the 987 Boxster, so all Caymans will have this fitment (Gen1 & 2 have the same part number). On introduction, the filter service interval apparently was increased to 40,000 miles and so I'm surprised that this was again increased to 60,000 miles for the Gen2 cars. Jeff

Not sure I would be 100% happy leaving air filter changes for 60k......?

It does sound excessive to me Chris but I presume that the Porsche development team must have carried out sufficient work to deem it OK; and it's in line with the progressively increasing duration between service intervals that we're seeing in the car industry. Jeff
