20" wheels without air...

I have the option to upgrade to 20" wheels but as my KN does not have air am I leaving myself open to a bumpier ride?

I appreciate that the mechanical suspension is a compromise and that larger wheels tend to give bumpier rides - just wondered what experience there is out there before I blow the money on getting a worse ride.....

The other thing to consider is that you will not have the onboard compressor to reinflate the tyre if you have a puncture as all you can carry in the back is the can of sealant.

Would think it would compromise the ride even more than the 18 or 19" wheels

When I had my Cayenne I had 18" wheels for the winter and 20" wheels in the summer. I did not have air suspension either.

Can't say there was a huge difference in ride. Rear seat passengers were generally the ones that noticed the lack of air suspension on bumpy roads.

I would definately have air suspension if and when I get another Cayenne.

I had 20" Sport Designs on my V6 from new on steel suspension and never found the ride to be harsh. To be honest I can't say that I've noticed any difference in ride quality in the numerous loan V6s I've driven over the last two years that have been fitted with 19" wheels. I spec'ed my new S on air and thus far wished I hadn't as it rolls a heck of a lot more on corners even with the sport setting engaged and gives the impression of being less stable thus reducing confidence levels. My passengers have also noticed it rolls a lot more. If I ordered air again I'd definately get the PDCC option but with a combined option cost of £4k I think I'd probably stick to steel!

I have no air suspension and 20" inch Technos, they ride ok not limo like for sure but not painfull by any means. The 20s do look good [:D]

I had the opposite experience, my old S on steel and 18" wheels had a bouncy ride, especially for back seat passengers. The new S on air and 20" wheels is more settled IMO - don't have PDDC either. Still mighty impressive round the bends for a big lump.

[;)] I'll go with Mark K's response. My Cayenne on 20" SportTechnos, it's no limo, but not uncomfortable. The bigger wheels look much better though.

Thanks to all for your comments - the option I had was through ebay but it all looked to dodgy in the end...

I opted to put the almost as essential towbar on instead..

My wife has a 06 Cayenne S with Techno 20" wheels and no air suspension. We find the ride very choppy compared to 19" and 18" wheels. We have just placed an order yesterday for a new Cayenne S (hopefully delivery in March) and drove a demo with air suspension, 20" Techno's and dynamic chassis - my God what a difference!! Not only is it a superb quality ride but he way that the vehicle can be thrown around is incredible! Will be specifying those options!
