200,000 Miles!

Fat Albert

New member
My 951 clicked over onto 200k miles this morning and is still going strong, gave good account of itself in company with a TVR Chimera 4.0 at the weekend, until my brakes gave up!

I am adding new Disks to the long list of work that will be bestowed upon it by TWG next month

Bravo fatty! 200,000 miles is a good distance; I trust there is life in her still?

My S2 is just about up to 158,000. A mere whippersnapper compared to yours! (And I had to smile when I was talking to a neighbour last night, who was planning on replacing his 5-series BMW because it was 'high mileage'. When asked, 'high mileage' was just under 88,000 ... )

Well done to both of you. I trust both parent and child are doing well. You must be very proud of her. And would you think you were looking at a car that had done 200,000 miles - NO!!! Good little Porsche - well done [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]

Magic stuff Albert! Mine is a baby at just over 100k in comparison. Bodes well for the future!

Another quality vehicle from Porsche!

Thanks guys, she is booked into TWG for much TLC w/c 5th June, so should come out full of vim & vigour (and rust-free Sills) and ready for another 100k

On my little thrash at the weekend, the TVR driver said that there was no smoke under acceleration apart from some slight black smoke at peak revs, probably a bit of over-fueling, so that bodes well, and hopefully the service will help it burn better at higher revs, he also said that it made a good noise and he could hear it over his V8!

It is actually a noise that has really grown on me over time. It's quite a tuneful rasp with that whistle, pop bang accompaniment and the roar of air from the turbo sounds vicious outside the car. I wish I'd filmed more of the Hartech 3.0 when I watched it do a few full bore starts through 1st and 2nd. It's an awesome noise with the extra roar of the tyres fighting for traction adding to the roar of the turbo. [:)] put a big smile on my face.

Good work reminding the TVR owner about our little 944's I always thought the guys at the TVR meets were a bit snotty about the 944 when I said that's what I used to own. I told them I wasn't sure which was faster but mine would have shown a Cerbera a thing or two and they would be foolish to dismiss it if they met one with a few mods.

Excellent news on your first 200k:) with the right maintenance I think you could do double that with ease. That BMW probably was high mileage at 80k my Z4M felt like the entire drivechain would fall apart at by 60k, it had so much play in the system everytime you came on and off the throttle. When my original 944 engine got stripped down at 82k miles you could have sold the parts as new! (in fact I think someone probably did, because most of them got stolen ..but thats a story for another time!)

Congrats on 200K, got a compression tester the other day to check out my motors (130K) cylinder pressure and I was pleased to find all 4 were just under 140PSI! Hopefully she will make it as long as yours!

I always thought 140psi was the result you got from a perfectly sealing 944 engine but Nick's red turbo that Rob is selling at the minute has 150psi on every cylinder! I've seen the report with my own eyes. Quite something that.

Congratulations ! Its great to see our cars hitting such milestones in fine fettle - What a testament to their inherent qualities and in sharp contrast to so many cars and marques that are deemed to be premium/performance brands but which struggle badly as the miles rack up.

Thats nearly 1 bar difference, thats quite a bit. My lux was about 165psi with its 10:5 CR. The turbo is 8:1 isn't it.

Excellent. There don't seem to be many in this club, but I'm sure there will be in the future.
My '44 has just clocked 201,000

nice one albert!, i am fastly approaching 167,000 but feels at least half off that when driving, regards jason p

Well done, a good 40K+ for our 968 to get to the same figure and seeing posts like this gives me confidence it will. I reckon Steph should get a good 5 years motoring out of it.

I reckon the biggest problem you face is the speedo - it looks like it was reading about 44mph high when you pulled over to take the picture;-)

Congratulations - did you put your car in the mileage poll? I think mine needs to go up a category or two now as well... I know mine wasn't on 218k when I added it!

Tref.

Great to see they are going strong at 200k, at just 162 I know with the required TLC I've got no worries for now [:D]

Well done Jeremy, nice to see another old girl pass the double ton [:)]

I'm about 1000 miles behind you in our S2 so hopefully I'll be posting my own picture shortly, I think there will be a lot of us soon

Thanks guys, when I was looking for a 944, I saw this one advertised 8 miles from my house with 194k and I dismissed it for weeks, travelling all over the place to drive lower mileage ones and had given up on finding a decent one until my Porsche owning friend (now TVR guy at the top of this thread) literally drove me over to see this one in his 993. The first two owners (pilots) had put the first 100k on in it's first 4 years, it then had a succession of owners who just lavished money on the mechanics, one guy (3 owners ago) had 3 bills for more than I paid for the car!

It needs some work, so it is going in to TWG in a fortnight for MoT, Service, Front Wheel Bearings, Front Disks, cam cover oil leak and sills, I am really looking forward to how it drives after that!

Well done - must be nice proving it can be done. With the mileage I currently do in my car, it'll take me about 20 years to reach 200k!

Out of interest, how many of them 200k has it completed under your tenure?
