2000 986 S Starting/Ignition Problem - Any common problems known?

Hi All,

Twice in the last 6 weeks I've had a problem with my car refusing to start. Hoping there may be some knowledge of common ignition problems that can help. This is my second car and has only happened twice in maybe the last 10-15 times of using.

Both times scenario has been to run the car for a short distance (3-10 miles), so not enough to get up to temperature, and then having left it for 30-60mins. On return to the car it has turned over fine (so not a battery/electrical issue) but refused to 'fire up'. Both times it has bump started no problems and when up to temperature has run completely normal in terms of power, engine note, performance etc.

I'm assuming this could be anything from maybe just a switch/sensor to maybe a fuel pump issue but just wanted to see if anyone has experience of anything similar that could help before i take it to a garage (gulp). Spark plugs replaced in late 2012 and only covered 5k miles since.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Alex

Ignition switches are a common fault, easily replaced and not expensive either. Hopefully that'll be all it is.
