well have had the car(2001 Boxster S)3 weeks tomorrow and the battery died yesterday, had the recovery out and the battery is dead.

will it be best to get a new battery from the supplying dealer(OPC)or source one from elsewhere tomorrow morning?

any advice much appreciated.

Alex

If your battery has the removable coivers on top, check the levels in each cell first. Mark Bennett found his quite low a few weeks ago, and put a very informative articll in Marchs (?) Porsche Post magazine

Alex,

The 5 year old OPC supplied battery on my 944 S2 died recently. The OPC wanted £98 + £10 acid fill + VAT = ~£130 for a replacement, which I thought was taking the mickey [:'(] Got one from Halfords (oh, the shame [:)]) on the recommendation of other forum members in the end. Smaller, lighter, larger capacity, more power, guaranteed for 4 years and only £64.99 all in.

HTH,

Jim.

Cheers Jim,

that sounds like a better deal,i was just concerned as to whether putting a battery on that isn't a Porsche one might cause issues with the Extended Warranty, would this be the case?

and the difference in price, the money saved is best in my pocket and not someone elses!!!!

In the US we use aftermarket batteries. I do not think the German Moll battery is good - must have been the lowest bidder. For a while US dealers would use batteries made by a US company called Douglas if the Moll was replaced under warranty.

As long as your car gets 12 volts it does not care where it comes from. Jeff
