Oh man! Meant to post here and instead posted on pistonheads! Oh well!! Here goes!

Hello all,
I've got a pcm1 in my car which is as useful as a chocolate teapot (actually even less)!! It has the Carphone which I'm thinking of removing and will have to change the side panel as the current one comes out to hold the phone.

Anyway, thoughts on removing it or leaving so the car tells a story? If so anyone know the part number for the panel I'll need to replace the old one with.

Thx
Roy

Very easy job to remove and replace the panel.

So remind me of the colour of your interior and if the other side panel is leather or leatherette aka plastic?

Hey Nick. Car is all black leather.

Just the word leather and Porsche makes me think of mucho pounds!!

How can you tell the difference between leather and leatherette?

Why don't you replace with a all Iona unit and BT phone connectivity like mine robot ad usual Manoj at caraudiofor less are brilliant

Thanks Meng. Don't really want to spend 900 quid on a new unit at this stage. Too many expenses at the moment and just spent just shy of £2000 on a new cycle. Cheers roy

This has been asked before & Richard posted a reply with part numbers..... sure you'll find it in a search on 996 DIY or PM Richard for his expert advice.

The lower centre console cover in black leatherette is part number 996.552.091.06.A12 and they are £42.88 + VAT. In black leather, they are part number 996.552.091.07.A11 and are a whopping £303.70 +VAT.

The black leather on the side panels is so good it looks just like vinyl! [;)] Sometimes, I find it difficult to tell, and bearing in mind that as the driver you only see the strip on the leading edge, it is a no-brainer to go for leatherette if you are replacing it.

You might pick up a used leather one from someone like Porsch-Apart, but the trouble is that they know the list prices, and that reflects in the prices they ask. Perhaps a used leatherette one might be the cheapest option?

Holy haberdashery, Batman! £363 for leather!! In West London, it costs £45 per hour :)

Thanks Richard! Will take a look at the plastic one or may just leave it.

Many Thanks All.

Roy
