2003 C4S - Valuation guidance please

The subject of car valuations seems to be quite topical at the moment. Can anyone help please?

I have a 2003 C4S Tiptronic Cobal Blue/Metropole (full spec can be posted). I am the first owner since the OPC as it was an ex-demontsrator. The main challenge in valuing the car is as follows: -

Mileage = 145,000 miles
The car has had 1 replacement engine (long and continuing story) at 117,800 miles and 2 replacement gearboxes (1 in June 2007 @ 124,121 miles and 1 in November 2007 @ 134,701 miles, both under extended warranty thank goodness!!).

Are there any guidelines that are used to put meaningful values on vehicles that have had such major components replaced.

I guess a value is made more difficult as there won't be many 911s out there of that age with anywhere near that mileage. I'd be happy to be corrected on this though!

Look forward to any assistance and opinions you may have.

Kind regards

John

Great to hear of a car being so thoroughly used[:)].

Sorry, don't have a clue about value, although I'd have thought someone looking to get into modern 911 ownership for less that than the typical rate would see this car as quite an opportunity with its relatively low mileage current engine. (Assuming your "continuing story" does not impact the relieability!)

Are you looking to sell privately or to trade it in?

Crikey, John ... I'd read about your engine beforehand, but didn't know you'd had another gearbox go ... I just hope that, as your last gearbox only lasted 10,580 miles, this one isn't about to fail at 145,281 miles!

Going back to prices - obviously the mileage and the fact that the warrantee won't be extendible further will have a negative impact. Do the replaced parts have their own 3 year guarantee or similar - that would help.

Henry at 911 virgin has an 02, 2002 C4S with 54,000 miles at £33,495, so I assume we're looking somewhere in the high 20's for yours ...

i would think mid 20`s is more realistic personally

Hi,

A topic close to my heart, would like to say circa £30K but got to be realistic taking on board milage etc. Mid £20K I would say is realistic as there are some vey high mile C2's picking up late teen low £20K.

It is a C4S very desirable and best looking of the 996 range[;)]

Have to say Henry's price as mentioned on the vehicle above in my opinion is lower than I would expect even in this credit crunch. There will always be a market for luxury items.

Guy on 911uk just bought a 03 plate turbo with 80k miles on the clock, full porsche history, but no warranty, on a private sale for £32k. I would think a bit lower £29k for a C4s with similar mileage and 4-5k less again for the increased mileage. The gearbox and engine change may well work in your favour regarding ease of sale with such a mileage.

Whatcar free valuation came up with this as a guide...

Wow! So a 2000 / 2001 model turbos should be coming in at under 30K soon then ... :) :) I better stop buying golf clubs and start saving up ...

Hi Mark,

Apologies for the late reply, I updated my email address after starting the topic and my account's only just been re-activated.

I guess the dilema I have is do I sell and at what price or do I still use the car as normal (everyday business mileage + private use) for the foreseeable future? Given the estimated values and the fact that the real value is whatever someone's prepared to pay for it (like a lot of things in life these days) I could assume that the depreciation curve could start to flatten out given that the estimates are where they are right now and I could lose less than swapping to another vehicle. My feeling is I would suffer less depreciation keeping the car.

I guess if someone came in with the right offer, I'd be tempted. I assume a private sale would give me the best opportunity to maximise the value. That then leaves the question what do I buy next and how much will that depreciate? So to answer your question a private sale would be my preference if I decided to sell.

The full spec includes: -

Sun roof
Litronic (bi-Xenon) headlights
Porsche Crest embossed Sports Seats
Tiptronic-S
Parking Sensors
Small Aluminium Pack
Bose
6 CD changer
Rear wiper
Headlamp wash
Full set of Turbo Wheels (about £1,000 each) not the standard Turbo Look II. These were put on at the facrtory although not specified by the dealership when they purchased the car as a demonstrator.
Upgraded with Sports Steering Wheel (Metropole Blue with Aluminium-look sections) although would probably put original back on and sell this one separately.

Any other information you need please let me know.

Best regards

John
