2003 PCM-2 CD Update

Hi,

Has anyone any idea if there is a PCM-2 (as fitted on my March 2003 C4S) disc update, and where I can get hold of it?. I've phoned my Porsche dealer, who had no idea. Didn't even know the unit was a Siemens. I've phoned Navtech, who stopped supplying the discs to porsche, but whose database is still used apparently.

The current 2003 disc makes me look as if I'm driving off-road for many of my journeys - which is news to me. And more annoyingly Petol stations seem to have turned into supermarkets - which is great if I want a packet of bacon at 2am, but not so great when I'm low on fuel.

Thanks,
Richard

Richard, I have had my car and hence disc's for just over a month, so would hope it has the latest disc!!
They are dated 08-2003, so a year out of date, and Yes the new Toll road confuses it also[]

Thanks Gary,

I've just phoned Customer Relations at Porsche UK Headquarters after getting no luck round the dealerships. They were very helpful and professional. They believe there is an update due out shortly, which I'll get confirmed next week after I've given them my CD Part-no (not entirely sure why they need this but I'll play ball), and post back to this site. They update every 12-18 months which is pretty infrequent.

My latest understanding is that whilst the map data is provided by Navtech, Porsches contract is with Karman (from an uncertain dealership), but that distribution is only through Porsche. Sounds complicated enough to be true, but wouldn't bet my car on it.

Cheers,
Richard

Had an update on this from Porsche Customer Relations. There are currently no plans to release an updated version of the Map CD's. Porsche are concentrating on the 997 which has a DVD-based system. Us 996's are redundant technology. This is really frustrating as Aug2003 is the latest data. I could understand the attitude if Porsche actually had to do something, but they don't own the map data (NavTech do), and they don't supply the disks (Karman do). Porsche just add £235 for putting the Porsche Crest on the CD.

I was thrilled to hear that my 996 is redundant technology (Porsches words!). So thrilled that the next time I get the opportunity to update that technology the words "Aston", "Martin", and "DB9" will win the day.

PCM-1 owners are even more out of date. They appear to have been told "no updates now PCM-2 is out"

This really isn't good enough:
"You won't be able to sell the car without Sat-Nav Sir" (But it won't be any use to the new owner anyway).[]

I'll check the discs on my car (which is only 2 months old).
I guess they are the same.
I can understand them using a DVD system on the 997 and moving in that direction. But I would have thought there was an update route, escpecially since they have little work to do, a captive audience and a big fat profit margin.

I believe PCM-1 was CD and PCM-2 (from MY03) was DVD.

In both cases it would be scandalous if Porsche were not continuing to support these systems with regularly updated software. BMW seem to issue updated discs every six months.
